A Major Overhaul for a Small and Outdated Bathroom
Design consultant Grace Moslares transformed the 60-year-old T&B into a luxurious private space filled with modern fixtures and vintage-industrial touches
After 30 years, homeowner Tomas will finally feel what it’s like to have a comfortable and spacious room he can proudly call his own. “Wala talaga akong room na sa akin talaga, marami kami dati dito sa house kasama 'yung siblings ko. Noong nag move out ‘yung iba, lumipat ako sa current room ko and dito ako nag setup. May banyo din kasi,” he recalls.
The room he’s referring to is a compact space with its own T&B and a narrow walk-in-closet. While he can sleep soundly at night, the bathroom needed a lot of work. It didn’t have an actual door, and when the renters had septic tank problems, the water would overflow in Tomas’s bathroom. Temporary solutions have worked so far, but Tomas knows he needs to invest in a major revamp, especially now that he and his fiancée Aichu plan to live in the space after their wedding.
Lucky for them, Real Living was looking for a bathroom to makeover. “I saw the post and I told him to send an email. After nung proposal niya, nag-usap kami na mag-iipon for the wedding, then sabi namin, aayusin namin ito. Tapos sakto nakita namin ‘yung post ng RL,” Aichu relates. To cut the long story short, Tomas was chosen as the recipient of a bathroom makeover and he was over the moon when he got the call. “Grabe ‘yung ngiti ko as in todo ang ngiti ko after the call,” he shares.
To make sure the new bathroom will have modern conveniences and fixtures, Real Living partnered with Sanitec Bath & Kitchen Specialist. Sanitec has been providing quality bath fixtures, fittings, accessories, and bath systems to discerning homeowners and clients for decades. They have also brought in the sought-after luxury brand Kohler to the Philippines. Kohler is a prestigious American brand with over 145 years in the kitchen and bath industry, and it is known for the timeless design and classic look of their fixtures and products that will never go out of style.
Also tasked to transform the problematic bathroom is design consultant and frequent Real Living makeover designer Grace Moslares of Magara Designs. “I knew that it would be challenging because in any site we do, the toilet and bath is the most difficult part to work on. You had to take into consideration so many things—the sanitary line, the water line, and the electrical lines—before you can beautify it…[Tomas] didn’t have requests in terms of the design and he just wanted na maayos 'yung banyo because he’s getting married,” the designer says.
