Ultimate Makeover

How An Interior Designer Transformed This One-Bedroom Condo Unit Into A Cozy Mancave

Wall partitions work wonders in defining spaces. But sometimes, they tend to make a small home look cramped—such was the case for this one-bedroom condo unit in Makati City.

BEFORE

When interior designer Cara Fajardo revamped this place, the first thing on her agenda was to knock down half of a wall, which separates the bedroom from the living area. "By doing so, you can clearly see the transition from dark and cramped to bright and airy," she told Real Living.

"What used to be a wall now functions as a bar counter that divides the dining area from the bedroom," she explained. "Designating areas is a great way to create a boundary from work and rest, which is very important, especially for a small space like this."

A neutral color palette with touches of blue and green gives the space a calming vibe. "For the bedroom, we were able to fit a double bed and a built-in side table that connects to the bar counter through the use of industrial metal pipes—this allows the eye to travel smoothly from one area to another," Cara explained.

LIVING AND DINING AREA

To maximize the space, the interior designer opted for a banquet-style seating, which can accommodate about three to five people. "To add a bit of warmth, we paired it with a wooden table and black chairs that had linear detailing," she added. "On top of that, we incorporated as much storage as we possibly could. Because when it comes to small spaces, storage is key to organization."

As for the little details, Cara shared: "We added chrome and black metal pipes and fixtures for that industrial vibe and wood materials to bring a touch of nature into the space."
