After months of being cooped up at home due to the pandemic, the owner of this studio unit felt the need to revamp her space. "My client [realized] that the existing design of [her] unit doesn’t actually reflect her personality," shares interior designer IDr. Sharlene Lanzarrote, PIID. "As a woman who is fond of dainty elements and pastel colors, the dark shade of browns and mirror panels don't really work for her at all."

Since she's working from home, the homeowner also finds it difficult to "focus because of too many distracting elements" in her personal space.

BEFORE

Prior to the makeover, the 39sqm condo unit had a moody ambiance. It had dark-colored walls with wooden touches.

Despite having huge windows, the entire room seems a bit gloomy.

"The client wanted a specific theme for her unit, something that is similar to the aesthetics of Pottery Barn," Sharlene tells Real Living. "With that in mind, we came up with a marriage of two styles: rustic and shabby chic."

AFTER

Take a look at how Sharlene and her team successfully transformed the condo unit into a relaxing haven!

"For a modern cottage look, we cladded the walls with vertical PVC slats," explains Sharlene. "We stripped off the dark wallpapers and replaced them with simple, white textured ones," she says, which instantly gave the unit a rustic vibe.

Sharlene opted for light colors to brighten up the space. Lovely touches of pastel hues further add a cheerful atmosphere to the unit. "We also added gold accents to balance the light colors like the pendant lamp. It’s always a good idea to display something reflective to avoid being too monotonous."

"Overall, the design is simple, chic, and cozy. [We wanted to create] a place that gives you warmth and comfort amidst the busy city life."
