A Bare Area turned into a Cozy and Comfortable Lanai

How can you deal with a small living area? Maybe you can make a new one!

What can you do with a small living room? Most homeowners consider knocking down the walls or replacing old furniture pieces. You can also think about turning a part of a different place, like your kitchen, dining, or maybe even your lanai, into a second living area.

For example, since homeowner Niña Kristine Lee's living area was far too small for her, her parents, sister, niece, and nephews, she thought that they could use the lanai instead. In line with this thought, design consultant Grace Moslares of Magara Designs stepped in to create the perfect space for Niña and her family.

Here are 4 things we can learn from this lanai makeover:

Grace installed polycarbonate roofing to protect the extended portion of the lanai from the elements. Since the material is translucent, it can protect the area and still let the sunlight in.

You can also shield the area from the sun and prying eyes with different curtains from Robinsons Department Store! These white and orange drapes also add a dramatic feel to the outdoor space.

No living area would be complete without furniture and decor! For this lanai, Grace brought in a custom-made daybed, coffee table, and foot stools. To add more charm to the space, she also displayed capiz windows from an old house.

Finally, you may also want to turn an empty and unused area into a playroom for the young ones! Grace used an old wooden divider and a red accent wall to define the open space. She also opted for a camouflage tent and colorful rubber mats.
