After an Anay Infestation, This Family Went for a DIY Kitchen Makeover
"The old cabinets were poorly done and the materials were substandard," she shares. "I also DIY-ed way too many details (I used to be a cheapskate), which did not help improve the overall look of the [space]." Lei's recent kitchen renovation, however, turned all of that around. Â
BEFOREÂ
Living in a 38sqm condo unit, the working mom has a tiny, narrow kitchen with two counters. Aside from the lack of space, one of the main issues Lei had with her kitchen was that it looked cluttered, so she wanted the area to look clean, bright, and airy.Â
AFTER
"[We went for] a mix of scandinavian and industrial and added a subtle farmhouse [vibe]," she shares. "We wanted it to be aesthetically pleasing but also functional."
To give her kitchen a neater appearance, the homeowner got rid of her open shelves—where she previously stored her condiments—and replaced them with closed kitchen cabinets that have a sleek matte finish. According to Lei, she spent around P70,000 for the cabinets, which were made of marine wood boards.Â
What we also love about this kitchen is the rustic-style countertop, which isn't actually made of wood. "The countertop is made of ceramic tiles that give the illusion of wood," she shares. "We bought it at Mariwasa in Pasig."
Additionally, Lei also replaced her standard faucet with a sleek black piece, which created a nice contrast against the pale wood-like countertop.Â
Do you also have a tiny kitchen? Here are some space-saving tricks we learned from Lei: "Declutter any item that you haven't used in a year, and decant as much as possible. Use the same bottle for spices and condiments so you don't have bottles in different shapes and sizes in your pantry. Doing so will also minimize clutter and even pests (i.e. cooking ingredients in boxes and plastic bags.)"
