It's not easy to redecorate a space with a small budget, but it's not impossible. With a little creativity and knowing exactly where to look, you can give your home a subtle upgrade that won't overwhelm you financially.

You can take some inspiration from Cherry Gamones and Darren Baccay, who shared their DIY makeover of their bedroom with Real Living.

"The idea was to spruce up the master's bedroom without breaking the bank plus making sure that we only source products made locally to support local sellers," they write in their email. Going this route made a small budget just enough for a subtle change, especially since their existing furniture didn't need to be replaced. They continue, "After a day of thrift-hunting decors, cleaning, and redecorating we managed to turn it into a chic farmhouse-inspired bedroom for less than the P5,000."

For their bedroom's new look, Cherry and Darren share, "We wanted something [put-together] with clean lines yet very natural and cozy." They added touches of the outdoors with fresh linens, plants, and pieces with natural materials like wood and woven baskets to follow through with the farmhouse chic theme. That said, they managed to stay within the budget by sourcing most of their new decor online and from the ever-reliable Dapitan arcade for as low as 75 pesos. Retaining their old furniture and relying on their new decor to refresh the look of the space also helped them maximize their budget.

Here's what their master bedroom looks like now:

The detail that stands out the most to us are their new beddings, which gave the room the bright pop of color it needed. "These are from a community of weavers in La Union," shares the homeowners. It took a week for them to receive the king-sized bed cover and throw blankets that costs 1200 and 700 pesos each. They then matched it with beige and checkered pillow covers, plus a new Capiz piña lamp that bathes the room in warm light.

The bedside tables are now decorated with a wooden sign board, wooden beads, and a basket planter that houses a small anthurium. But what did remain are the adorable framed photos of their cats, Winter and Summer, which still hang on the wall above their headboard.

Speaking of plants, the greens that weren't gifted to Cherry and Darren are from the plant shops in Quezon City circle. The San Francisco plant beside the dresser costs them 100 pesos, while the previously mentioned anthurium went for 200 pesos.

In the end, Cherry and Darrren gave their bedroom an upgrade with just new decor. No paint jobs, and no new furniture needed. Take cues from them if your space needs a new look, too!
