With all the clamor for life outside of the city, more and more Filipinos are fast banking in on the demand.

Take Evan Rey Luceño, a seafarer whose family invested in an eight-hectare property in Pangil, Laguna. The area, tucked away in a lush and hilly location, offers fantastic views of Laguna Lake, the Pililia windmills, and the nearby mountain range.

“At first, we built this kubo as a family rest house, but one time, pinost ko sa internet, maraming nagkakagusto at gustong mag-overnight,” Rey tells the OG team. Today, the property, now called the Top Mount Farm, features not just one but five accommodations ready for the public.

The Kubo

To prevent termite infestation, the base of the hut originally intended to be the Luceño’s rest house was made with concrete. Wood and bamboo, meanwhile, were used for the remainder of the house to give that airy, breezy feel.

Upstairs, there are two bedrooms and a shared comfort room. A veranda looks out into the verdant vista of Laguna. Outside the bahay kubo is an outdoor kitchen, which also offers the same arresting view. A total of five people can stay in the hut for P5,000 a night.

The Tiny House

The Top Mount Farm also has a tiny house, an accommodation made for smaller groups such as couples. Built with concrete and wood, it has basic amenities such as a double-deck bed, a comfort room, and a kitchen with cooking and grilling equipment. At night, it can get especially cold with the breeze.

The Glass House

One of the bigger structures on the property is the glass house. Inside is a living area, two bedrooms, and a shared comfort room.

Beside the glass house, an outdoor kitchen and dining area are being built to make the most of the fresh air and beautiful scenery. On the second floor will be a view deck, perfect for parties.

Naging modern house 'to dahil yung gusto ng mga bisita ay nasa condo na at the same time nasa farm at may magandang view,” Rey explains.

The glass house can fit five people and can be rented for P5,000 a night.

Last but not least is the tiny kubo, measuring 12x14 feet and made with amakan, concrete, and wood. Upstairs is a big bedroom which can fit five people. As power lines have yet to be installed at the farm, the tiny kubo and the entire facility rely on solar power.
