You might be planning a staycation for the family or for yourself, but the only thing that is turning you off is the fact that the hotel you are looking at is in the middle of a too-noisy, bustling metropolis.

What you need is hotel that is conveniently located in the city, but one that still feels private and peaceful. The Cocoon Boutique Hotel in Quezon City fits the cozy-staycation bill, because it has a lot going for it: a quiet neighborhood with numerous food choices, great accessibility, and beautiful, practical, eco-friendly design. Here are eight reasons to visit the 39-room boutique hotel:

1. The sophisticated yet cozy hotel design

Once you enter the hotel’s double-height lobby, you can lounge in any of the high-backed sofas in the different seating areas.

The interiors are by internationally renowned interior design firm Steven Leach + Associates (the same firm that designed Camp John Hay Manor Hotel), and are done in a modern-tropical style with distinct Filipino touches.

2. Its up-cycled and sustainable materials

Where else can you find a hotel that uses reclaimed wood along with other natural and renewable materials? These are used throughout the public areas, and including the rooms, which feature reclaimed solid hardwood desks and floors, wall paneling using artfully done scrap wood pieces, and calado-style accents above the beds.

3. There are eco-friendly features everywhere

The Cocoon Boutique Hotel shows us that “Luxury is Responsible,” and walks the talk by incorporating a lot of eco-friendly features in its goal of being LEED-(Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified. Their air conditioners are inverter-type, using non-ozone-damaging refrigerants. The hallways are cooled by fresh air generated from their Heat Recovery System, and lighting is 100% LED. Rain and ground water is harvested for toilet flushing and general house cleaning.

4. The cozy, sleep-inducing bed

Go under the covers of their 400 to 600-thread-count, 100% Egyptian Cotton bed linen and goose down duvets and rest on their anti-dust mite, anti-microbial beds. You’ll definitely be assured of a good night’s sleep! (It isn’t noisy, either—the windows are fixed for sound insulation.)

5. A deep and relaxing soaking tub

There is an open-bathroom setup with speakers so that while you’re soaking in the bathtub, you can watch TV at the same time. And don’t feel guilty while taking a bath—even the water used in the bathtub is harvested, cleaned, and filtered for use in the air conditioning.

6. Even the toiletries are biodegradable!

Would you believe that even their toiletries are eco-certified? The containers are made out of plasticized cornstarch, and the labels use stone paper printed with soy ink—totally biodegradable!

7. There is an edible garden on the roof deck

If you’re taking a dip in the rooftop pool, you might notice the Urban Edible Organic Roof Garden next to it. The garden doesn’t use chemical pesticides and fertilizers, and it pushes for less carbon emissions since it eliminates the need for road travel to purchase vegetables and herbs for the rooftop al fresco restaurant Abuela’s.

Now if you decide to dine out there are dozens of restaurants and cafes in the area: there is the hip coffee shop/bar Stockwell on the ground floor of Cocoon, Estrel’s Caramel Cake right across the hotel, Napoli Pizzeria, Mama Rosa, Annabel Lee along nearby Timog Avenue, and La Petite Parisienne a couple of blocks down near Morato.

8. Go on a Bonding Staycation now!
