Pinoy Artists Create Murals For Kevin Durant Visit
Kris Abrigo and other artists paint murals for KD's Nike launch in Manila
NBA All-star and Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant was in Manila last July 8 to meet fans, shoot hoops at the Araneta Coliseum, and launch the KD 11 shoe for Nike, according to this article by fhm.com.ph.
But at the KD 11 launch at events venue Whitespace in Makati City, Real Living spotted something else: a group of paintings and murals by some of our favorite young Pinoy artists, including Kris Abrigo, Kookoo Ramos, and Melvin Rodas.
Nike commissioned the artists to create portraits of KD, which were then put on display at the venue, and were projected onto the stage where the two-time NBA Finals MVP was being interviewed along with Nike basketball footwear designer Leo Chang.
Kris Abrigo was one of Real Living’s 25 Creatives To Watch in 2014, and has collaborated with the likes of Habitat and Boysen for his paintings, murals, and booths for these respective furniture and paint brands.
Kookoo Ramos is one of the few female muralists in the country. She creates large-scale artwork—both edgy and romantic—on unexpected corners and building walls on the city streets.
Designer and illustrator Melvin Rodas is known for his striking and graphic illustrations of basketball, boxing, and football superstars, and has collaborated with many international sports brands.
