All The Fun Things You Can Do At This Pinoy Food Hall

Part-restaurant and part-cultural park, Margarita Fores's new culinary venture lets you taste the Philippines

If you are old enough to have experienced Nayong Pilipino, you'll remember the fun thrill of walking through the different parts of our 7,107 islands right in the comfort of a theme park. It's been decades since the park's heyday, but folks can now reminisce their childhood and bring their family and balikbayan friends along for the ride in this new concept restaurant, Islas Pinas.

A collaboration between the DoubleDragon Group and chef Margarita "Gaita" Fores, the heritage village is a 2,500sqm space situated at the new DoubleDragon Plaza in Pasay, Scattered throughout the venue are different zones, allowing guests to experience different facets of Philippine life and culture firsthand.

Islas Pinas is designed by Larawan Ink, an architectural and interior design firm headed by Lara Fernandez-Barrios (Lara also spearheaded the design of many popular restaurants like Wildflour, Farmacy, and Old Swiss Inn).

Kids will delight in the Bahay Kubo that serves as a welcome to guests who step into the restaurant, complete with baskets and kariton full to the brim with fresh veggies (sing the folk song as you identify each vegetable).

Also part of the Vernacular Zone is a mishmash of different landmarks in the country, such as a green wall representing Bohol's Chocolate Hills, and food stalls with wooden carvings (okir) from the south bearing the country's Islamic influence.

"Tusok Tusok" is the Urban Zone of Islas Pinas, where you will find an authentic Sarao jeepney, a typical sari-sari store, and all the popular street food treats Pinoys love to indulge in, such as inihaw na isda, pork barbecue, and sago't gulaman.

The Heritage Zone of Islas Pinas takes you through Vigan's Calle Crisologo, allowing you to experience the country's Spanish Colonial architecture, while the Mountain Zone has the stepped ridges of the Banaue Rice Terraces (this area will be used to host cultural performances), and the Ocean Zone houses a Balangay, complete with the vibrant sails familiar to our seafaring culture.

"Islas Pinas offers wider selections of all our regional cuisine with moist and fresh seafood and gulay that will never be overcooked, all in a wonderful, tasteful, stylish place to present our culture and our country to the world.

Islas Pinas' menu changes daily, giving patrons a chance to try everything from the classic Filipino breakfast to regional dishes, comfort food like pancit and puto, local breads, street food selections, as well as fresh catch seafood and fish. 

If you're looking for a way to keep the kids happy, a place to please the older folks in the family, as well as a new restaurant to tour first timers in the Philippines, Islas Pinas should be your first destination. The perfect spot for photo ops (don't forget to make a pit stop at the flag monument at the center of the restaurant), pasalubong shopping (they've got a handicrafts store!), and authentic Pinoy bites, this restaurant ticks all the boxes on anyone's foodie/tourist list.
