This Cute and Sunny Condo Unit Brings Back Childhood Memories
Pops of yellow and cuddly teddy bears turn this 24sqm home in Tagaytay into a big playground
The home is the special place where we feel most comfortable to do the things we love. Whether it’s binge-watching a favorite show, belting out tunes, or playing with an old toy collection—we can do it all without fear and worry. In designing this 24sqm, one-bedroom unit in Tagaytay, the owners tapped into the wonders of childhood. Brice and Brian, RL readers and design enthusiasts, worked with yellow and charming elements to create a look that kids and kids-at-heart will love. “We opted for a bright yellow theme to create a cheerful vibe and just like in our first home, we displayed a quote that says ‘Think Happy Thoughts' to inspire our guests to create happy memories,” shares Brian.
The unit is charming and comfortable, a place where guests can chill, read books, sleep to their hearts’ content, and relish the cool breeze of Tagaytay. “Real Living inspired us and taught us that everything is possible even in a limited space. We designed the space by ourselves and we’re thankful that everything fell into place,” adds Brian. Also known as Big Bear Tagaytay (yes, you can rent it on Airbnb), the condo features cute and cuddly teddy bears as accent pieces. It is a home away from home that will bring out the kid in you. “[We believe that] no one is too old for a teddy bear. There are giant teddy bears in the unit that will give guests a warm hug,” shares Brian.
Brice and Brian wanted to create a cheerful vibe. To accomplish this, they opted for a teddy bear theme with yellow as the dominant color. All throughout the unit, yellow can be seen as accents—from the pillows and wall art, to the chairs and cabinet knobs. The two wanted a spacious feel as well and given the limited floor space, they had to make smart shopping decisions. “Luckily, there was a newly opened Landmark Department Store near our place. It’s where we bought most of the pieces. They have a variety of home items that are stylish and affordable,” shares Brian.
To maximize the available space, a gray daybed was placed in the living area, a special spot where guests can unwind. “We always want to binge watch movies and series all day, then have a peaceful sleep at night. Having a daybed is like hitting two birds with one stone. It’s our favorite piece in the unit,” says Brian.

The duo successfully created a cohesive look. The wall accents and soft furnishings follow the bear-and-yellow theme. To liven up the home and make it more relaxing, they used artificial plants as décor pieces, too. A ladder shelf by the door holds these greens and if you look closely, the two used cute bear plant containers.

To keep the unit from looking monotonous, patterns and neutrals were injected into the final look. Hints of gray were mixed with the yellow pieces, making the space even more inviting and easy on the eyes.

While the kitchen is kept clean and simple, hints of the theme can still be seen. Brice and Brian replaced the cabinet knobs with yellow ones that pop. Even the lighting pieces follow the color scheme.

The yellow chairs add life to this nook that functions as a work/dining nook. Adding gray pillows not only makes the spot extra comfortable, it ties the look of the dining nook to the living/sleeping area as well.

Brice and Brian refer to the second part of the home as the play/bear area. Separated from the main living space by a frosted glass sliding door, it has a teddy bears and pillows in different sizes that will surely make guests feel relaxed and at home. “It’s a place where they can chill, take photos, read books, or just bond with family and friends. It completes the playful vibe we want to achieve in the unit,” says Brian. The artificial grass used as flooring gives the area an outdoorsy feel, as if inviting guests to plop down and while the time away.
