A 119sqm Condo Filled With Shades of Gray
Inspired by Christian Dior boutiques, the owners and interior designer Jiezl Sunga worked on a modern French glam look to turn the three-bedroom unit into a luxe haven perfect for a young family
New chapters are always exciting. The owners of this unit in Bonifacio Global City got twice the fun as aside from moving into a bigger space, they were also patiently awaiting the arrival of their bundle of joy. Fortunately, they found an interior designer who understands their needs and was open to the aesthetic they have in mind. “Coming from a 77sqm condo, we knew that we needed storage space. It’s a must. Our interior designer, Jiezl Sunga, helped us achieve that. She incorporated built-in wall cabinets without compromising the space of the unit,” says the lady of the house. Jiezl, one of the ladies behind Upcycle Manila, took into consideration her clients’ wishes and suggested solutions to make the space better and suitable for the family.
Since the owners were inspired by Christian Dior boutiques and the hotels they've stayed in during their travels, neutral colors served as the perfect backdrop for the elegant pieces of furniture, stainless steel accent pieces, and lovely storage solutions. “When we contacted Jiezl, we sent her different pegs and ideas to show how we wanted our home to look like. We’re glad she was able to accomplish our vision. She did an excellent job in presenting how we can maximize our storage spaces,” they share. Jiezl supervised the project even while the owners were away, delivering a home that reflects the owners’ personalities and completed with their stunning travel finds.
“We wanted to make sure that Jiezl will use neutral colors. We’re very particular that we wanted shades of gray in white,” the owners share. The living area is a study in neutrals—from the sofa and pillows to the curtain and chosen rug. The varying shades of gray used in the space keep it from looking monotonous, while making it extra sophisticated.
Three tables with geometric stainless steel legs add a fun and quirky twist to the space, too.

A bevy of travel finds and chic accessories spruce up the tables and serve as part of the vignettes. Meanwhile, two multifaceted octagonal mirrors add glam to the setup and pair well with the wallpaper. The owners were not too keen on adding wallpaper, but Jiezl insisted on using it to define the areas. The chosen wallpapers also added personality to the space.
We can’t help but admire the built-in cabinets incorporated into the unit. These are so sleek and well-executed that you won’t even think it’s used for storing a bunch of items. In the living area, the entertainment center also doubles as a storage nook. The handleless cabinets add to the streamlined look of the unit.
Living and Dining Areas
Two area rugs help define the living space from the dining nook. While the dining area is quite compact, it’s kept elegant and inviting with the upholstered chairs and a mirrored dining table.
Jiezl employed a well-loved small space trick in making the condo unit seem bigger and more spacious—the use of mirrors. Reflective panels cleverly incorporated into the built-in wall pieces can be seen in the dining area and hallway.
One of the biggest changes done in the unit concerns the flooring. “Since we’re having a baby, we wanted to change the original tile flooring to wood. We had a specific color in mind and luckily, Jiezl found the perfect color and pattern,” says one of the owners. The dark wooden flooring perfectly complements the shades of gray found in the unit. It also adds warmth to the space.
Exquisite Fornasetti wall plates serve as accents in the dining area. Keeping the wall décor to a minimum gives it a minimalist and opulent appeal.

While the kitchen has white cabinets, the countertop and backsplash have the same moody vibe seen in the other areas of the home. A textured backsplash adds a punch of color while protecting the walls from spills and grime.
The similar frames add to the cohesive and streamlined look of the unit. Opting for black and white photographs also keeps within the unit’s overall vibe and theme.

A play of varying tones of gray make the master bedroom extra calming and inviting. The cabinets are painted a light shade of gray, while the soft furnishings come in darker tones. It’s safe to say that the designer achieved the boutique hotel feel the owners wanted.
The homeowners consider the wallpaper used in the master bedroom as their favorite and we can’t help but agree. Aside from adding depth to the space, it also matches with the upholstered headboard with mirror trim.

One of the condo unit’s must-see items are the customized furniture pieces crafted by Upcycle Manila. The owners were able to finalize the fabric and materials to be used for the furniture before leaving for a trip. Who wouldn’t love the mirrored side table that holds the sleek lamp and chic accessories? Jiezl was able to create a unified look that anyone would want to achieve for his space.
A quirky and interesting lighting piece casts a warm glow when turned on at night. It also helps set the mood and make the room ideal for rest and relaxation.

The owners were very clear that they wanted the home finished by the time they come home from a trip. After seeing the completed project for the first time, they asked Jiezl to work on a couple of adjustments and the designer obliged. “She was very patient and professional in accommodating our requests,” they share.
While the newborn baby isn’t ready to have her own room yet, the owners allotted a special space for her. The pretty and compact room is furnished with an upholstered daybed with nailhead trim, fluffy pillows, and another mirrored storage piece.
