Moving to a bigger space can be just as challenging as moving to a smaller one. When couple Rico and Kitty decided to move their small family to a townhouse, it was also about the same time as Kitty’s grandparents’ house was being emptied out to convert into a spa. After receiving advice that old furniture can still be reused and faced with the potential of antique collections ranging from tea sets and glassware to clocks and furniture, Kitty was able to transform beloved items from her grandparents’ collection and give them a new lease on life in her lovely new home.

Antique pieces share the space with modern implements. Meanwhile, some furniture pieces have been updated with a fresh coat of paint or new upholstery. Moving into the new home maybe daunting but it gave Kitty an opportunity to try her hand at decorating. The end product is a carefully edited home filled with antiques but not the least bit intimidating.

Foyer

Awash in a moody gray hue, the walls provide a modern backdrop to the small foyer space. An antique bureau is used as a console table, while other finds, such as the horse figure and fancy mirror were updated with fresh colors.

Repainted in a dainty powder blue color, an antique wrought iron pedestal is now used as their daughters' shoe stand.

Living Area

Dressed in mostly black and white, the living area is classy and tasteful. Floor-to-ceiling curtains with a modern print frame the windows, an old coffee table adds classic charm, and a bold zebra-print rug pulls the space together. Not forgetting practicality in the design of her home, Kitty uses canvas seat covers for easy cleanup.

Kitty's love for the black and white color scheme is evident in a stylish vignette in a corner of the house. An antique chair serves as an accent chair and sits alongside intricate nesting tables in a dark wood color. This setup is made modern with black and white accessories and flooring pattern.

Dining Area

A heavy Filipino mid-century table is repainted black for the dining area, thus giving it a new modern vibe. A New York resident for several years, Kitty opted for a framed black-and-white fabric depicting a Times Square scene as the main focal point for the dining area.

Reading Nook

The reading nook employs an old rattan armchair reupholstered with a botanical print. The tall windows at the back bring in a lot of precious light, while the floor-to-ceiling curtains add a modern graphic touch.

Bucket Chair

A welcome departure from the moody colors of the other parts of the house, this reading nook features an interesting bucket chair with an upholstery combination of checkered gray and white back and plum seat.

Den

This den is furnished with modern throw pillows with typographic designs and an Oriental rug from Kitty's grandparents.

On the other side of the room, a powder blue desk adds a refreshing dash of color.

Master Bedroom

The master bedroom has a glamorous ambiance. The fully upholstered headboard in a plum fabric is custom-fitted with stylish black wall sconces. Meanwhile, the choice of bed linens is a masterful mix of colors and patterns. A small sunburst mirror with brass details hangs above the headboard.

Kid's Bedroom

The nursery room's pink color scheme comes as a welcome surprise. The pink walls, blush pink crib and the organic-print rug creates a feminine vibe.

Bedroom Corner

A bucket chair with a black and white pattern stands out in the pink room. Hooks and a bookshelf are mounted on the wall for organization.
