Pastel Colors for a 40sqm Condo in Manila

At the time of our photo shoot in her 40sqm studio unithomeowner Che Perey was earning her master's degree in business administration. Her parents gave her this second home because their own house in Novaliches was just too far from Che's school.

In order to make the halfway home more spacious, comfortable, and beautiful, interior designer Kristine Neri-Magturo stepped in. Kristine chose pastel colors that are sweet but not too girly — these light shades also make the space seem bigger than it really is! She even opted for small space solutions like a window seat and a swinging TV panel that would allow the homeowner to watch TV from both the living and bed areas.

Silver Dragonflies

Plastic dragonflies were covered with silver paint and mounted on the wall. These whimsical pieces make the plain and simple surface stand out.

Living Area

The living room is furnished with a gray sofa, a tufted stool, and a modern drum-shaped table on a shag area rug.

Living Area

The white partition separates the living and bed areas. The swinging panel allows the homeowner to watch TV from both spaces.

Dining Area

Instead of traditional dining table and chairs, Kristine chose a bar set-up that would also be perfect for enjoying meals with family and friends!

This bar set-up also helps the homeowner save on space and separate the living and kitchen areas.

Kitchen

Since there is no dining table, the kitchen seems airy and open! Another way to create the illusion of space is to use light-colored walls, cabinets, and flooring materials.

Window Ledge

If you are also living in a small home, you may also want to build a window seat! A window seat provides an extra spot for resting and relaxing. It can also be fitted with hidden cabinets for more storage space.

Bedroom

The bedroom has a padded headboard featuring the colors seen in the rest of the 40sqm studio unit. Beside it is a mirror-covered column that increases the light in the space and visually doubles the size of the area.

Bathroom

For a better bathroom, Kristine painted the walls, added a shower enclosure, and put up a framed artwork and floating shelves. The wall-mounted shelves above the water closet is the perfect place to keep bath towels and other essentials.
