Modern Tropical Style for a Family Home in Davao

Gatchi and Larcy Gatchalian, owners of Blugré Coffee, welcome us into their beautiful house

Gatchi Gatchalian and Larcy Diaz are best known for founding Blugré Coffee, the home of durian coffee. As they celebrated the 10th anniversary of their popular cafe in 2008, they also moved into this modern tropical house.

Designed by architect Patrick Tan and interior designers Wilan Dayrit and Leah Lazana, the family home is unique because it does not have a living area! Instead of a living area, the first floor is completed with a spacious kitchen and dining area.

The front door opens to reveal a foyer furnished with a red Dragnet chair by Kenneth Cobonpue.

Dining Area

The dining area has a custom-made dining table surrounded by mocha-colored chairs with interesting woven detail

Dining Area

The dining area is illuminated by three pendant lamps by Kenneth Cobonpue. A large window lets the sunlight in and provides the family with a pleasant view of the bamboo fence outside.

For a warm and cozy feel, the state-of-the-art Siematic kitchen is completed with wooden materials and coffee-colored Bisazza tiles

Since the house does not have a living area, family and friends can spend time together in the kitchen. The flat-screen TV on the padded wall is the perfect addition to the open space.

Butler's Pantry

Cups, bowls, plates, and other everyday essentials are kept in whitewashed shelves. Open storage makes it easier for the homeowners to find exactly what they need.

Sliding doors from the dining and kitchen areas lead to the lanai, which has three seating areas, including a spot furnished with two sofas by Kenneth Cobonpue.

The lanai is also furnished with an outdoor dining set-up and a large chair by Ann Pamintuan.

Yoda Chair

A lime green version of the Yoda Chair by Kenneth Cobonpue is placed next to the powder room entrance.

The hallway that leads to the bedrooms is made more interesting with a sculpture illuminated by dramatic red lights.

Master Bedroom

The master bedroom is furnished with a custom-made bed with a built-in headboard and side tables. The upholstered window seat allows the couple to enjoy a breathtaking view of their verdant surroundings.

Master Bedroom

The master bedroom also has a separate area for watching TV! For a special look, the wooden seats appear to float above the floor. The seats are complemented by recessed lighting for a warm glow.

Master Bathroom

The master bathroom would fit right in a modern tropical resort! We think that the Asian reliefs above the bathtub add character to the space.

Dressing Room

The dressing room has a pair of stools that resemble the seats in the dining and kitchen areas
