Helene's Colorful Family Home filled with DIY Projects
This mom-blogger gives us a tour of the house that she painted, furnished, and decorated on her own
Names: Helene and Vince Santos
Style of Home: Modern Contemporary
After resigning from her job as an account executive at an advertising agency, Helene Santos had more time to start her own blog (www.mrsmommyholic.blogspot.com) and create the ideal haven for her, her husband Vince, and their young children.
For a pretty and personalized space, Helene painted some of the ceilings and walls, handpicked every piece of furniture, and made her own decorative touches. Her efforts have paid off with a bright, vibrant, and playful house that she and her loved ones are happy to come home to everyday.

Looking for a great piece for your own living area? Wait for furniture sales! The homeowner purchased this gray sofa at a discounted price at Mandaue Foam.
Beneath the gray sofa is another budget-friendly find — a graphic-print rug from an Instagram seller.
The homeowner spray-painted the purple wrought-iron side table on her own! We love the eccentric shade on a traditional piece.
Facing the gray sofa and purple side table is a customized white table. On the other side is a wooden console table topped with a yellow bird cage, V and H initials that stand for the homeowners' names, and other trinkets.
The first thing that the homeowners decided to do was to paint stripes on the dining area wall! This is an interesting way to spruce up a plain and boring space.
RL Tip: If you would like to create your own striped focal point, you can use two paint colors, masking tape, and paint rollers. Paint the entire wall with the lighter paint color and let it dry overnight. Create stripes using masking tape and paint the entire wall again using the second paint color. Let it dry overnight again before carefully removing the masking tape.
Resting on the customized blue console table in the dining area is a ceramic owl decor and coffee table books.
Instead of a traditional centerpiece, the homeowner spruced up the customized dining table with adorable pineapple canisters.
Helene created silhouette profile portraits of her, her husband, and their children! She highlighted these black-and-white pieces with candy-colored picture frames.
The homeowners explained that they still need to work on their kitchen! For now, the space is simply brightened up with two sleek pendant lamps.
Helene painted the ceiling and walls of the kids' room on her own! She also made and attached the triangle wall stickers.
RL Tip: You can also make a wallpaper-inspired print by printing out triangles, polka dots, and other cool patterns on sticker paper!
The homeowner also turned this corner of the bedroom into a spot for reading and playing! She simply filled a low bookshelf with books, toys, and other knickknacks. Beside the bookshelf is a charming tiny upholstered chair.
For an eclectic look, the master bedroom is filled with different colors and patterns. The surprising combination of elements make the personal space seem less intimidating.
We can imagine sitting down om this built-in window seat with a cup of brewed coffee in one hand and a much-loved book in another!
One corner of the master bedroom also serves as a relaxing reading corner! The cardboard deer head is a surprising piece from Urban Outfitters.
Another console table is spruced up with cute matryoshka dolls from Singapore!
