When makeup artist Jigs Mayuga and his partner George Defiesta were conceptualizing their dream home, they wanted something functional and beautiful with plenty of storage solutions. The challenge, however, was how to maximize their budget given that they needed to buy new furniture and select pieces from their former two-bedroom apartment, that had to be incorporated to the 80sqm space.

It was through the help of their friends, Instagram followers (who gave them furniture suggestions and to whom they sold most of their furniture), and their contractor, that they were able to transform the space into something that they could call their own. What once was a man cave occupied by two brothers is now a sanctuary of all things Jigs and George.

Foyer

A wall adorned with reprints of paintings welcomes guests to the unit. These works of art are from Jigs’s museum visits abroad, namely Mucha Museum in Prague, Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, and Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC) in Barcelona. Meanwhile, the framed Vogue cover of Lady Gaga is one of the pop diva references scattered around the house.

A Buddha head, crystal ashtray, and a framed photo of the couple are just few of the details curated atop the glass console table in the foyer.

Living Area

Jigs says that they chose the leather sofa, which they bought in 2011, because it’s very manly and big enough for them. That and the side table are just some of the old furniture they’ve incorporated in the new style of their home.

Living and Dining Areas

The custom-made shelf displays the couple’s magazine and book collection accentuated by various knickknacks as well as their entertainment system. Meanwhile, the two-seater dining table can be customized depending on the number of visitors they’re having over. When expanded, it can seat six people.

Kitchen

For someone who spends a lot of time in the kitchen, it’s not a surprise that Jigs’s favorite home appliance is his powder blue SMEG refrigerator. He admits that he finds it beautiful and that he likes staring at it. It’s also a plus for him that it looks really good with the rest of the furnishings in the condo.

Master Bedroom

In contrast to the white-walled living and dining rooms, the walls in the master bedroom are painted royal blue with blackout curtains to boot. This is so George, who works at night, can sleep soundly during the day despite the sun’s rays.

A fan of thrift store shopping, most of the items in the couple’s vanity area were purchased via thrifting. They figured that the femininity of the table and mirror, which used to be in their living room in their old apartment, provided a good contrast against the dark wall.

This framed poster is a good addition to break the monotony of the dark walls and furniture in the master bedroom.

The hand and bust sculpture details strengthens the Classic vibe of the vanity area.

Master Bathroom

Another pop diva reference can be spotted in the bathroom. This time, it’s a portrait of Rihanna, which Jigs bought from her Diamonds World Tour concert in Florida in 2013.

Home Office and Guest Room

Their home office which also serves as the guest room is the most fun, playful, and colorful part of the house.

Details in the home office and guest room are a hodgepodge of all things colorful and quirky.

Aside from being the most vibrant room in the house, the home office that doubles as the guest room is also home to Jigs’s vinyl toy collection, which started when his sister gifted him a Batgirl vinyl doll.
