Dawn Zulueta’s Three-Bedroom Condo with a Traditional Style

Before moving into a bigger house in Makati, actress Dawn Zulueta used to live in a high-rise unit in the same city with her husband Anton and their kids, Jacobo and Ayisha. While many would opt for modern interiors, the couple chose a traditional look, with hand-me-down must-haves and statement furniture filling the space.

With the help of architect and interior designer Chito Antonio, the three-bedroom home came to life with bold colors and interesting decor finds that will surely captivate guests.

Entryway

An elegant setup by the entrance gives guests an idea of what to expect inside the unit. A vintage escritoire takes the spotlight with its dark wood finish and ornate details. It is paired with an equally sophisticated round mirror and framed works of art on the walls.

RL Tip: An escritoire is a writing desk with hidden compartments. If you've always wanted to have one, Lucina Home has pieces you can check out. For those looking for antiques, visit secondhand shops and thrift stores.

Entryway

The best thing about the escritoire is that it can also hold a vignette that can liven up a dull corner. In Dawn's house, flowers, a lamp, and framed photos complete the setup. Depending on the look of your home, you can mix and match decor pieces, too. Remember that the entryway is the first thing that guests will see—make sure you create a lasting impression.

Living Area

When the house was shot for the feature, it was ready for the holidays. Complementing the charming Christmas tree are the soft furnishings and accessories in maroon, a cream couch, and a large ottoman that functions as a coffee table. An entertainment console designed by Anton houses the TV, curated decor, and more photographs.

Although it's a three-bedroom unit, it's still vital for the owners to make the most of the available space. Instead of building walls or using tall dividers, the sofa and ornate chests help define one area from another. With this hack, they can still watch TV during meals or interact with guests during parties.

Dining Area

Don't be deceived by the square six-seater dining table! It has hidden drop-leaf sides that can be raised to accommodate two extra guests. The Lagdameos love to entertain and it's only fitting that they have enough space to welcome friends for casual get-togethers. A lovely chandelier with mini lamp shades hangs above the dining set.

Dining Area

A console table by the window in the dining area holds a unique lamp with a base sculpted from marble. Under the table is a sarimanok wooden sculpture by National Artist for the Visual Arts, Abdulmari Imao.

Kitchen

Since Dawn and Anton find joy in cooking, the kitchen needs to be a bright and happy place. Cabinets are in a vibrant shade of yellow, while the countertop and backsplash feature hints of gray. The steel appliances and extra work area make meal preparation easier. We especially love the wooden piece in the middle with its extra compartments—it not only serves as an additional work area, it lends warmth to the space, too.
