Country Style for an 86sqm Condo in Taguig

Interior designer Elaine Isip-Tiangco turns a modern unit into a classic, traditional, and comfortable space for a young couple

Before homeowners JB and Aissa Panganiban married in February 2014, they invested in a 30sqm condo in Bonifacio Global City. However, they soon realized that the small space would not be enough for the family that they planned to have together. Thankfully, Aissa's grandfather had a rent-to-own 86sqm unit available in a nearby building.

With the help of interior designer Elaine Isip-Tiangco, the new two-bedroom property has been turned into a country-inspired home. In the living area, a plain white wall has been transformed into a "brick wall" with ribbon-grained wooden pieces. On the other hand, the standard flooring material has been replaced with wood-like tiles from a local home depot. The space was furnished with made-to-order frames and mirrors from Elaine's aunt in Tanay, Rizal, customized furniture pieces from Angeles, Pampanga, and rustic decor.

Living and Dining Areas

Although the two-bedroom condo is in the heart of the city, interior designer Elaine Isip-Tiangco made it seem like an airy home in the countryside. She achieved the look with white walls, wood-like floor tiles, customized furniture, and rustic touches.

Dining Area

The dining area is furnished with a solid wood dining table that the couple received as a gift. Aissa paired it with mismatched Windsor chairs from Angeles, Pampanga.

Dining Area

The dining area is illuminated with a pair of enamel-coated pendant lamps. The bright color complements the pastel shades of the dining chairs.

Dining Area Detail

The dining area is adorned with white ceramic candleholders from Our Home and a silver teapot and a wooden chopping board from Korea.

The big rectangular mirror was purchased from Mandaue Foam Furniture Store. Elaine surrounded the mirror with made-to-order white and brown frames and mirrors from her Tita Ophelia in Taytay, Rizal.

If you would like to order customized decor, you may contact Ophelia at 0917 941 0914.

Budget-friendly Decor

The console table is topped with affordable pieces: a starfish plate from Mandaue Foam and candleholders and ceramic balls from Uniwide.

Living Area

In the living area, the wall behind the sofa has a faux wooden-slat finish. The opposite wall has a faux brick finish. These special treaments make the walls more interesting.

The three-seater sofa was custom-made in Angeles, Pampanga. The carpenters also repainted and installed rattan wicker on the armchair and other settee by the window.

Living Area Shelves

The wall with wooden slats is fitted with recessed shelves. These shelves are adorned with the couple's initials from Typo, figurines from Uniwide, and old books from Elaine's friend.

Coffee Table

A vintage trunk or baul from Aissa's uncle is used as a coffee table in the living area. It is topped with candles from Dimensione and a floral tray from Korea.

The old settee by the window has been updated with white paint, striped upholstery, and paisley-print pillows.

DIY Shelves

In line with the country theme, abaca rope was attached to the wall-mounted shelves. Find similar shelves at Urban Abode at CW Home Depot, Ortigas.

The shelves are adorned with succulents from Baguio in pots from Uniwide.

In the bathroom, the standard fixtures were replaced with vintage European fittings. The basic countertops were also replaced with solid granite and updated with wooden cabinets. There are also new Machuka floor tiles from Felport in Quezon City.

Master Bedroom

The bed in the master bedroom was borrowed from Aissa's aunt. In order to match the theme of the home, the frame was painted white. The bed is covered with a white quilt set with embroidery bought on sale at SM Home.

One side table is from a shop along NLEX while the other side table is a secondhand item bought from Elaine’s friend.

Since Aissa is already pregnant, the couple also prepared a nursery. The space is furnished with a secondhand solid wood bed that has been painted white. There is also a shelf ladder filled with small picture frames.
