Sometimes, the dream house can be found in unexpected places. In the case of Amy Uy, the perfect property for her and her family was her renovated childhood home. Located in a quiet and peaceful San Juan neighborhood, the dark and gloomy space has now been turned into a warm, comfortable haven.

Two walls completely made of glass now let sunlight in and open up the space. The glass is matched with white ceilings, walls and tiled floors for a clean and fresh look. The space is furnished with an eclectic mix of traditional and contemporary pieces – from vintage tables to molded plastic chairs.

LIVING AREA The living area is furnished with a sofa and loveseat with woven frames. In the middle of the space is a low glass-topped coffee table adorned with Asian sculptures and bromeliads nestled in a silver bowl.
LIVING AREA DETAIL A colorful painting livens up the plain white wall.
WOODEN CHAIR In a corner, a wooden chair with solihiya detail and wide armrests serves as the ideal spot for reading or relaxing. The piece is complemented by a single potted plant.
LIVING AREA In the second living area, a traditional Filipino bench is complemented by a pair of Chinese seats. The Filipino-meets-Oriental style leads to a relaxed, laidback space.
DINING AREA A modern lighting fixture hangs over the eight-seater dining table. The table is surrounded by molded plastic chairs with steel legs.
KITCHEN Using a black and white palette paired with gleaming, spotless surfaces results in a streamlined kitchen. Opt for a neutral color scheme and minimalist furniture and fixtures for a similar style.
BOYS’ ROOM In the boys’ room, a whimsical painting hangs above the bed dressed in red, black and white sheets.
GIRLS’ ROOM A white daybed is made inviting with black and white pillows and a row of stuffed toys. Another painting adorns the wall, serving as a pop of color in the neutral-themed space.
MASTER BEDROOM In the master bedroom, a wooden sleigh bed faces a carved Chinese cabinet. A pair of Chinese chairs complete the space.
MASTER BEDROOM DETAIL A table lamp and framed black-and-white photos are placed on the bedside table.
