Homeowner Cora dreamed of having a stylish city home after acquiring her 38sqm studio unit. But after a contractor installed dark wood panels, bulky shelving, and stark, white lighting, all she got was a masculine, dark, and cramped space not befitting a passionate and lively career woman as herself. Nearing the end of her rope, Cora sought the help of art gallery owner and creative consultant Albert Avellana to help her with her space.

After some deliberation, Albert and Cora agreed on making the space more open and functional for everyday living. The bulky shelving was removed to allow the space to breathe, furniture with curved lines were added to soften the space, and calming shades of green were mixed in with the browns. A few sprinkles of chic decorative pieces make the unit more homey. This resulted in an elegant, feminine home that Cora can relax and unwind in after a hard day’s work.

Living Area To break the very strong, masculine presence of the wooden panels, curved furniture like the daybed from Wyn and Vang was used in the space. This also allows guests to move freely through the area without bumping into corners. The decorative mirror from MC Home Builders Depot is also a good example of curved lines.
Living Area Detail The elegant TV console hides beneath it a pair of nesting buffet tables and added seating for when Cora has guests over.
Living Area Detail Shelving that acted as the unit’s divider was removed to create more space. Instead, a glass and wooden table are the only pieces used to separate the living and bedroom areas.
Sitting Area Despite only having a studio unit, Cora’s functional furniture like her daybed/sofa can accommodate a guest whenever needed.
Bedroom The bedroom follows the earthy palette with green sheets and brown tufted headboard. An elegant lamp is seen on top of the bedside table along with other accents such as a small plant and a clock.
Vanity Corner A quaint corner is seen where Cora's personal essentials are carefully organized. A wooden stool works well with the brown palette while catching one's attention are the creative accents on the wall.
Kitchen Her small kitchen is hidden behind a decorative curtain.
