It’s quite common to see white interiors in compact units for a couple of good reasons. This non-color seems to make any room airy and spacious, and can brighten up even the smallest of spaces. However, it has the tendency to look plain and dull. To keep this from happening in this 41sqm, one bedroom condo, interior designer Sitti Shahani Omar chose accent colors and lighting. Touches of gold, yellow, black, and gray worked well with white—creating an inviting hotel-like home the owner wanted. Meanwhile, classy pieces and accessories complete the overall contemporary look.

Foyer

A built-in white shelf welcomes guests into the home. It serves as a command center for decor, plants, books, and accessories. The cabinet below holds shoes and other belongings.

Living and Dining Areas

From the door, guests can appreciate the openness of the entire unit. The use of white opens up the space while the addition of the mirror makes it look bigger than it really is. In the living and dining areas, the designer opted for sleek glass tables to keep the home from looking cramped.

Dining Area

The dining area immediately catches one's attention with its beautiful upholstered banquet seat completed with fabric from Larry's. To create a balanced look and to make the narrow area seem more spacious, Shahani paired it with Ghost dining chairs. Golden frames in different sizes showcase photos and spruce up the wall above the banquet seat.

Dining Area

Choosing glass tables and almost invisible chairs create an illusion of a bigger space. Since one area flows freely to the next, the owner can entertain guests and friends with ease. Pops of yellow, gold, gray, and earthy tones keep the all white space from being dull.

Kitchen

To create a functional cooking space and achieve a bigger prep area, the refrigerator was moved to the left. Simple yet sleek tiles make up the backsplash while a bevy of storage options—from cabinets and drawers to shelves and open niches—help the owner store ingredients, dinnerware, and other cooking must-haves. Top-of-the-line cooking equipment complete the space and make meal preparation easier.

Meanwhile, a fancy lighting fixture casts shadows on the cabinets—giving it an interesting touch.

Living Area

A white leather sofa serves as the focal point in the compact yet inviting living area. Since it only has a couple of pieces, the owner can entertain guests without worrying about space limitations. Yellow and gray throw pillows liven up the rather stark seating piece.

From this angle, one can see the door leading to the bedroom. According to the designer, the turned over unit didn't have a bedroom door. She then added one to give the owners some privacy, especially when they have guests over.

Living Area

The patterns on the wall blend well with that on the curtains. A console cabinet holds a few precious belongings while keeping clutter at bay.

Bedroom

Since the owners live in the province, they want to come home to a relaxing and welcoming space in the heart of the city. To meet this requirement, Shahani worked with a neutral palette in the bedroom then used hints of gold and yellow as accents. The built-in king size bed is enough to accommodate the owner and her kids, while the extra upholstered bench by the window can be used by friends and even serve as a reading nook.

Bedroom

The upholstered headboard serves as a focal point in the bedroom and when paired with the soft furnishings with hints of gold—the space is transformed into a luxurious escape reminiscent of a five-star hotel suite. Meanwhile, the classy pendant lights cast a warm, ethereal glow—making the wallpaper even more interesting.

Bathroom

The T&B is a study in understated elegance given the pristine, all-white color scheme. Hints of gold as seen in the accessories add a posh touch.

Bathroom

According to the designer, completing the bathroom was a bit of a challenge as they had to install fixtures and accessories by a well-known brand. Although it incurred extra costs, it was all worth it as seen in the sophisticated and golden outcome.
