During the planning stages of their renovation, the owners immediately envisioned a sophisticated space their grandchildren would also enjoy. The minimal space allowed no room for the children to play in and the previous interiors included pink walls and a Mediterranean theme. Looking to revamp their old space with a modern look, they decided to acquire the help of interior designer Van Acuna to turn the shabby townhouse into a stylish home by adding a few trendy touches.

A neutral palette ranging from dark grey to white was chosen for the walls and furniture. Pieces with distinct straight lines and sharp edges were paired with different shades of blue to give the space a cooler, modern feel. More seating and extra space expanded the house to allow room for movement and guests. Accessories such as family photographs and paintings were displayed to finish off the look. Now, the townhouse not only can accommodate the whole family, it perfectly suits them, too.

Entryway Despite it being a humble townhouse, the home looks spacious and open.
Living Area The wooden tabletops and added seating from Gus and Living Space can accommodate more guests and contribute to the cozy atmosphere of the home.
Living Area Detail No-frills furniture were chosen to allow easy movement around the space.
Dining Area The dining set and a narrow buffet table are the only furniture pieces in this area to accommodate the eight-seater dining set --- which translates to more space for movement.
Dining Area Detail Photos in black frames create a unified, modern decorative piece that fill up the room without overwhelming it.
Dining Area Detail The designer accessorized the buffet table with contemporary pieces such as a metallic vase and a silver-coated telescope to add to the modern character of the home.
Master Bedroom Serenity is the atmosphere created by the taupe and white walls in the master bedroom.
Master Bedroom Detail The man of the house requested for a reading nook inside the master bedroom—similar to those in hotel rooms. A one-seater sofa and a lamp were added to the space.
Bachelor's Room A youthful yet mature bedroom was created for the couple’s son. Blue walls and strong black furniture were used to give the space a masculine touch. The artwork by Mark San Juan Arcamo adds a playful, quirky touch to the room.
Bedroom Detail The room even fits a work desk; fitted with a chair from Blu Dot.
Kids' Room The beds in the kids’ room were custom-made to fit the space. Despite the limited area, the horizontal stripes on the walls create the illusion of bigger space.
Bedroom Detail A repro Eames rocker in red breaks the continuous blue elements in the room. It provides a fun nook where the kids can read books.
Lanai To give the lanai a contemporary touch, modern red chairs from Blu Dot were added.
