Investing in your own condo unit is a feat in itself, but to see it turn into the space you’ve always wanted from the ground up is another story. After purchasing her own home using all her earnings, Real Living reader Meldz Relucio worked on completing the space with her handpicked pieces, accessories that speak of her passions, and colors that tie the look together.

Being very hands-on with the overall process—from sourcing to facilitating the delivery of the items—has its pros and cons, but it’s a journey she wouldn’t trade for anything else. After a seven-month renovation period and with the help of contractor Clarence Dizon of C.B. Dizon Design & Construction, Inc., she was able to achieve the look and feel she envisioned—proving that the best things in life are always worth the wait.

Entryway

An enchanting entryway—featuring unique tiles from Wilcon Depot and a huge mirror that serves as focal piece—welcomes guests into the home.

Entrway

Select decor and accessories spruce up the console from Marc John Furniture. According to Meldz, the console serves as a storage center for her shoes and other belongings.

Decor Detail

Given the compact space, the challenge was how to make it look airy and spacious. A mirror was added to widen the entire unit. To spruce up the corner, the owner placed a lamp and table from Triboa Bay Living. Aside from holding decor and small potted plants, the table can also function as a shelf for books.

Living Area

According to Meldz, one of the best things about designing her own home is she can fix anything based on her pegs and preferences. Since she loves the fall season, she made sure to use earth tones with touches of yellow, white, and orange as seen in the living area. A customized sofa from Home Matters is set against the wall spruced up with interesting decor from Crate & Barrel.

The center table with extra storage was purchased from Marc John Furniture.

Den

A sliding door separates the living area from the den—giving the owner privacy. She shares that she often sleeps in the den—given her erratic work hours as an anaesthesiologist. Meldz also loves watching TV in this part of the home and plans to liven up the walls with more photos from her trips.

The sofa was purchased from Gus* Modern while the yellow seating pieces are from Home Matters. Inspired by one of the magazine's stories, she also opted for Roman shades instead of the usual curtains. Meldz simply draws them down when she wants to watch a movie or sleep.

Kitchen

The kitchen is made more inviting with the combination of laminate kitchen cabinets and a striking yellow backsplash by Pacific Glass Corporation. Meldz chose the said color to showcase her favorite season. It also features an L-shaped layout that gives the owner extra prep or dining space.

Kitchen

An organizer livens up a plain surface—keeping bills, notes, and other items in place. A clock from Mav Furniture serves an accent piece—giving the area a charming country feel.

Kitchen

The unique barstools that complete the kitchen are prized finds from Sason Shop. Meldz relates that these pieces were chosen to match the finish of the bedroom door.

Dining Area

Cozy, compact, and inviting—the dining area can seat four to five people. The dining chairs with stud details are from Home Matters while the dining table and fixed bench are both customized by KC Interior Design Services to fit the space and make way for extra storage underneath.

Design Detail

The den features a swinging TV panel that allows the owner and her guests to watch TV even while eating in the dining area. According to Meldz, this is one of the meticulous details found all over home as they had to make sure that the panel can hold the weight of the TV, the wires won't get tangled, and that the finishing would remain consistent.

Dining Area

The lighting fixture from Illuminati Technique adds an elegant touch to the space while the open shelves and storage nooks on the right hold jars filled with treats, decor, and other essentials to keep it neat.

Dining Area

To keep the table from being too plain, the owner added a chic table runner and three potted plants. Aside from these pieces, you can also spruce up the table by adding a tray filled with candles and decor or set up a vignette featuring various accessories and a vase filled with flowers.

Bedroom

The door leading to the bedroom showcases an intricate detail and fantastic craftsmanship. To learn more and to purchase something similar, check out Modern Concept Woodshop.

Bedroom

Meldz considers her customized bed from Home Matters as an investment piece. The upholstered headboard with nailhead trim adds a touch of elegance to the space. To maximize the room, a compact vanity area with plenty of storage nooks can be seen by the window on the right.

Bathroom

Dainty tiles with a lovely floral pattern spruce up the wall in the main bathroom. Given the limited space, Meldz opted to work with only a few essentials to keep it clutter-free.

Bathroom

To maximize every inch of space, built-in niches were incorporated into the bathroom—allowing the owner to store some of her belongings and toiletries using woven baskets. Using similar pieces also gives the space a clean and streamlined look.

Common Bathroom

A tiny bathroom by the entryway was squeezed into the layout to accommodate visitors. While it's small, it's kept organized and spotless with only a few essentials and built-in niches on one wall to serve as storage.
