A Modern Version of a 70s Home in Pampanga

This 300sqm property veers away from the usual by going complementary

Thanks to its unconventional exterior, one is in for a surprise once he or she enters this split-level, sprawling dwelling. The homeowners knew from the get-go that they wanted an all-white home, veering away from the design style employed in their old house, which was bursting with colors and had a lot of “abubot,” as they put it.

With the help of architect Reyno Basilio and interior designer Wilan Dayrit, the all-white, no-clutter abode of their dreams finally came true, but not without challenges. For starters, the house’s architecture was Brutalist—a far cry from a provincial family home that one would normally expect. Given this, making the place feel homey inside without looking uncoordinated became the priority.

To nail this idea, Wilan experimented with contrasts. This explains the abundance of natural elements, carefully employed textures, and well-appointed lighting to enhance the white walls. It helped that the homeowner’s husband was also specific with his preferences—he would share his ideas, and from there, Wilan would provide images to visualize the ideas.

Upon completion, the homeowner couldn’t help but rave about the transformation. “Lahat dito, nagustuhan ko. Bago lahat sa paningin, pati surroundings ko. Di ako na-homesick dito kahit very quiet. At home agad ako, kahit mag-isa ako, puwede ako maghapon. Ganyan ako ka-at peace dito."

Living Area

The formal layout of the living area is complemented by carefully selected pieces to come up with a look that isn’t too “put together.” Aside from the plants, some of the chosen colorful pieces liven up the area.

The kitchen features a retractable faucet, which one can easily hide for a no-clutter look in the area.

Study Nook

Clean and cozy, the study nook exudes a tranquil vibe that will surely help one focus. Greens in the form of candles and plants break the monotony of the space.

Master Bedroom

The hotel vibe is achieved in the master bedroom—which is in line with the couple’s love for traveling. It is awash in neutral colors with pops of orange and green in the accessories.

On one corner of the master bedroom is an all-white couch and matching ottoman, which can also serve as a reading nook.

Bedroom

A geometric-meets-industrial feel was achieved in the youngest child’s bedroom. Shelves were added on the wall for additional storage space.
