It’s no secret that having a clear picture of what you want for your space can make it easier to set a budget, look for pegs, and finally turn it into beautiful reality. Even before investing in this unit, the owner already knew he wanted an industrial style home that’s sleek with just the right dose of cozy. Bought at the pre-selling stage, the 22sqm space served as a playground where he brought his concept to life. Taking inspiration from different online sources and his travels, he was able to finalize the look down to the tiniest detail—choosing the colors, textures, materials, and the décor, too.

While one would think that the industrial style can be best appreciated in large spaces, proper planning and choice of furnishings made the difference in the limited space. To turn his plans into an actual place he’d love to come home to, the owner also worked with a trustworthy contractor. “A contractor that gets you would be very helpful as they can also give suggestions on how to achieve the look and feel,” he shares.

Kitchen and Dining Areas

From the door, the kitchen and dining areas are situated on the left. Given the limited countertop, the cooking area remains clean and organized with the addition of wall-mounted storage. The use of wood works well with the bare cement walls and ceiling.

The owner chose the industrial style as it adds character to the space. While many would instantly associate it with cold, stiff interiors, adding touches of wood and soft furnishings can soften up the look and make it homey.

Storage Idea

Aside from helping the owner keep dinnerware, supplies, and other essentials in place, the wall-mounted cabinet also holds a functional surprise—it has a partly concealed shelf that can hold jars, bowls, and other must-haves.

Living and Dining Areas

Although small, the unit still packs a punch in terms of style, function, and warmth. The owner was able to carve out a sitting area, a sleeping space, a tiny nook for books, and fit a closet, too. Meanwhile, the brick wall was added to break the monotony of bare walls. It now serves as a gallery wall spruced up with framed prints and decor.

To achieve the feel he wanted for his home, the owner also invested in the right lights. Most of the lighting pieces give off a warm glow—helping set the mood and add to the inviting feel. The mini bar/dining area also serves as a work desk.

Entertainment Nook

Beside the dining nook/mini bar is an entertainment corner with a wall-mounted TV serving as focal point and a low console table holding a few decor pieces and his essentials. Keeping the area between the console and the bed open allows the owner to move around freely and even enjoy the view from the window.

RL Trivia: According to the owner, the contractor had to remove the original paint used in the unit when it was turned over to achieve the cement/unfinished look.

Sleeping Area

To make the most of the available floor area, most of the pieces in the unit were customized. The owner took the necessary measurements and personally met with the sellers to make sure everything is in order. Some of the customized pieces in the unit include the cabinets, the bed frame, the bench against the brick wall, and the desk.

Sleeping Area

To keep the unit from being too cold and stiff, the owner opted to add a leather headboard. It complements the sheets and chosen pillows, too. The customized cabinet features a mirror door that serves different functions. Aside from helping the owner prep for work, it also helps create an illusion of bigger space—a tried-and-tested small space trick.

Sitting Corner

Perfect for welcoming guests into the unit, the bench highlights a wooden pallet base and a cushion on top. Pillows make it extra comfy and inviting as well.

The small table in the middle will also captivate guests. It has a steel base and quality wood for the surface. It can hold potted plants and reading materials, too.

Decor Detail

Instead of collecting magnets and other usual souvenirs from his trips, the owner makes it a point to get a few novelty items that now personalize his space. The marquee letter R on the wall beside the prints was bought in San Francisco.

We can't help but notice this round double-sided clock, too! Purchased in New Delhi, it gives the unit an old world charm.

Adding an invigorating touch to the space are potted plants found in corners and nooks.

Design Detail

The window by the entertainment nook and bed not only allows light to stream into the home, it also gives the owner a view of the property's amenities.
