After a long day in the concrete jungle, a haven with white walls and furniture is a soothing sight to behold. In this two-bedroom space owned and designed by Daki Fernando, the immaculate shade is not just relaxing – it also creates the perfect backdrop for colorful artwork and home accessories. The Fine Arts professor at the University of the Philippines drew inspiration from the 1930s art galleries that were the first spaces to have white walls.

Armed only with his creativity, imagination, and a desire to have a beautiful home, Daki bravely took on the renovation of his two-bedroom condo. The walls of the third bedroom were torn down to expand the dining area. The kitchen ceiling was opened up so that they could have enough space for their state-of-the-art cooking equipment. In the living and dining area, walls were smoothened out and the marble flooring was replaced with legally-acquired Narra wood.

Living Area

In the living room, antique furniture pieces made from dark wood were refurbished with white paint and white upholstery. In the middle of the space is a spotless white Ethan Allen sofa covered in blue and white pillows. The wall behind it is adorned with an abstract painting by the homeowner.

Dining Area

The dining area is illuminated by a colorful Murano chandelier dripping with crystal fruits from Florence, Italy. It hangs above a glass-top dining table surrounded by mismatched dining chairs – an upholstered sofa and tufted chairs with elegant damask prints. One wall is decorated with framed Nestor Vinluan paintings.

On the other wall of the dining area, windows are covered with white canvas Roman shades.

On the floor behind the black piano is a toy train. The miniature track is a charming and whimsical detail.

Kitchen and Bar Detail

Behind the bar is a white china cabinet that fits the color scheme of the condo unit. The exposed pipes on the ceiling are also painted white.

A whitewashed breakfast counter was also added so that Daki and his loved ones can enjoy food straight from the stovetop. The bar stools are upholstered with a fabric that has a playful pattern.

Apart from changing the ceiling to make way for their new kitchen appliances, Daki also replaced the old sink with a stainless steel counter that has a built-in sink. There are now two sinks, one for food preparation and another that serves as a bar sink.

Kitchen Detail

In the kitchen, pots and strainers hang from silver hooks attached to the range hood.

Every nook and cranny of the condo is personalized with Daki's precious finds.

Master Bedroom

For a calm and serene feel, the walls of the master bedroom have been painted robin’s egg blue. The beam above the Ethan Allen sleigh bed is embellished with white wooden cut-outs. Although the bed is dressed in white sheets, it is topped with lime green pillows for a surprising touch.
