A Minimalist Philosophy Creates a Cozy, Clutter-Free Home

To create the modern home of their dreams, this family turned to open spaces, ample storage, and minimal design

The Angeles family moved into their second home in Antipolo after realizing they needed more living space. Although it has a bigger space at 210sqm, the two-storey house felt cramped for a brood of their size. Faced with the challenge, the family sought the expertise of interior designer Hannah Acab-Faustino to help them design a home that was spacious, modern, and eye-catching.

The family and the designer agreed on a minimalist scheme to open up the space. Features like vaulted ceilings and a neutral color palette worked together to give the home a light, airy feel. To break the frigidness of a monotonous theme, a number of decorative pieces and personal touches like plants and photographs were added. The result? A home that not only maximizes space but is cozy for a family of six as well.

Living Area Hannah injected no-frills seating in the living area. This, together with the mirrored coffee table, allows one to see the entire space instead of cutting it or making it look smaller.
Hallway Wood panels and furniture incorporate a warm, tropical style into the contemporary home.
Dining Area Detail To complement the contemporary style of the dining set, Hannah chose a steel-legged round table.
Kitchen Storage was an important detail in the family’s house plan. In the kitchen, added cabinets and a hidden pantry help keep clutter away from the counter tops.
Décor Detail Hannah introduced color into the home by using décor and details such as the Roel Obemio paintings by the side of the stairs.
TV Room A narrow room houses the family’s entertainment and work area. Although small, the room feels spacious because of the vaulted ceiling that gives the illusion of vertical space.
TV Room Detail A small area in the TV room was dedicated for a work area where the family’s computer sits.
Blue Room The family decided to add colored accent walls to the room to make it fun and playful for the young ones.
Blue Room Detail The boys have a love for soccer so they added blackboards in their rooms to imitate a soccer field. They are even free to create their very own art for their spaces.
Bedroom Detail To keep the room light and bright, the rest of the room was kept white.
Storage Solution Fun shelving houses the boys’ books and toys --- keeping mess off of the floor.
Master Bedroom The same green and blue colors from the boys’ rooms flowed toward the master bedroom through the details. A green, stylish headboard and a colorful bedding blend to create a calming atmosphere.
Master Bedroom Detail A compact desk was added to the bedroom --- providing additional storage to the small space.
Bathroom During the renovation, the couple decided to line the master bath entirely with mirrors to enlarge and brighten the space.
