Homeowner: Annie Santos

Type of Home: 50sqm combined condo unit

Style of Home: Scandi-industrial

When homeowner Annie Santos first saw the unit she felt most at home in, her initial reaction was, “Wow, ang liit. Storage, saan?” She knew that it was going to be a problem, which is why she opted to combine two units. As soon as she got her space issues solved, she then sought the help of interior designer Wilmer Lopez of WLopez Designs in achieving the look she wanted. “Annie already had a mental picture of how her space would look like. What made it easy was that we have the same style preference,” shares Wilmer. The “mental picture” he was referring to was the combination of concrete, wood, and steel, which was the one thing Annie was sure of.

Aside from getting the industrial look down pat, Wilmer also made sure that the space is functional, flexible, and very much resembles Annie’s personality: “straightforward, honest, and warm.”

Living Area

Brick walls, check. Exposed pipes, check. Caged lights, check. Concrete, wood, and steel pieces, check. Even with just the bare essentials (floor lamp, accent chair, and coffee table), the living room looks every bit industrial.

Little details like these caged light bulbs lined in the living area help achieve the industrial theme.

Dining Area

“I told Wilmer gusto ko lahat may gulong—I wanted convenience. Definitely yung bed ko, center table, and even my dining table. I entertain a few friends, so when I move the table away from the wall, it can seat about five people,” says Annie of her dining table.

Kitchen

Hindi ako girly. I don’t go for pinks and florals,” shares Annie, but somehow, Old rose works well in softening the browns, grays, whites, and blacks of her space.

Kitchen

Annie’s kitchen is an often-used area since she loves to cook. Her pantry is not only filled with healthy food, but is neatly organized, too.

Bedroom

Annie had been sleeping on a sofa bed for more than a year before she found her dream bed. But she said it was worth the wait and would even do it again if it means getting to sleep on this customized bed frame with industrial caster wheels.

Bedroom

The headboard shelves with secret drawers in Annie’s room serve as the shrine to her books and other mementos.

Walk-in Closet

Storage problem? Annie solved hers by installing open shelves in her walk-in closet. The closet stays true to the theme as the shelves make use of steel pipes.

Work Area

Nung nakakita ako ng ganitong style, gusto ko siya, mga Herman Miller. Interesting,” shares Annie about her style preference, which is obvious in her working area. The wooden shelves add warmth to the space as well as give Annie just enough room for her things.

Decor Detail

Among the accessories displayed in the living room is this vintage typewriter with a leather case to match.
