Nobody is spared from the inconveniences that Metro Manila’s dreadful traffic situation brings. Traveling to and from the workplace is as stressful and time-consuming as it gets, forcing some people to think of ways to cope with this seemingly helpless problem. For this couple who lives in Novaliches, staying near their office in Makati during the workweek was a viable solution.

From the get-go, the wife knew that she wanted a country-inspired interior. With that style in mind, she flipped through the pages of Real Living and found an interior decorator in Elle Uy-Aguell. It was Elle’s first time to come up with a cottage-chic look, but her familiarity in feminine elements and the simplicity of the unit’s layout made everything easier.

Finding suitable pieces for the space proved to be a challenge for Elle, making customized furniture the best solution. The interior decorator turned to AM5J Furniture, a company based in Angeles, Pampanga for all the custom-made pieces in the unit. Another challenge was making preferences meet. The couple’s two boys, both in college, wanted a black-and-white color scheme. To address this, Elle decided to strike a balance and keep things neutral by painting walls in white, applying geometric patterns in accessories and decorations, and using gender-neutral color combinations—to come up with a look that’s pleasing to all residents.

Living Area

The living area mainly features a daybed with a pull-out bed, where the couple’s sons sleep, a tall floor lamp, and two ottomans. The cabinet on one side takes inspiration from obsolete card catalogue drawers in libraries.

Mirrors create an illusion of spaciousness. The interior decorator nearly missed out on these two vintage-looking mirrors to another customer at Dapitan Arcade. That made Elle quickly purchase the items, which now found its home in this cottage-chic abode.

Dining Area

The custom-vintage dining table is surrounded by four chairs—two of which with back rests, the other two are stools. There are also built-in shelves for dining wares on one side of the dining table—a nifty storage option for such a compact space.

Kitchen

The kitchen is right next to the dining area, where select kitchen appliances can be found. Subway tile backsplash and recessed pinlights create a cozy vibe in this space.

Bedroom

The bedroom is not just for sweet slumber—it’s also where one can find plenty of smart storage options. For one, the base of the bed is home to four drawers. Most of their belongings are still in their Novaliches home, so clutter wouldn’t really be an issue in this house.

Bedroom/Work Area

Another customized piece worth checking out is this desk, which can be converted into a makeup table. The chair covered in coral prints adds a lively feel to the couple’s room.

Bathroom

This home will never run out of space for even the littlest things. The bathroom wasn’t spared from this with a cabinet installed over the toilet.

Feminine elements were dialed down for gender neutrality. This wall clock from Wilcon is perhaps the closest thing in the unit that has curled features.

Storage Detail

This chest of drawers customized by AM5J Furniture is as quirky as it gets with the random handles and knobs, as well as the refreshing color combination employed.

The woman of the house likes keeping things organized. These flower hooks from Lucina Home help her achieve a clutter-free home.
