A 72sqm Quezon City condo turned into a Family Home

Proper planning and smart budgeting transforms a simple shell into a chic starter family home for three

A creative wife and a practical husband proved to be the perfect combination when creating a starter home for a young family. Kat and Dexter Erro made sure that their condo unit does not only satisfy their need for practical space and aesthetic craving, but also pocket-friendly, putting into consideration the several loans and their son Liam’s schooling.

Some of the features of the humble abode is a faux fireplace—a personal request from Liam—that functions as the media cabinet. The fireplace-cum-entertainment system suits Kat’s preference for the traditional style, as it is flanked by two wing chairs. Some of the pieces also appear pre-loved, such as the dining table that has bumps and scratches, which Kat did not mind as it shows story and character. There were also floor-to-ceiling shelves that serve as a backdrop and a fulfillment of Kat’s library fantasies. Despite the budget constraints, the condo unit was not only practical for the family’s needs, but also aesthetically pleasing.

The living area is furnished with two wing chairs on both sides of the faux fireplace and a custom-made couch with only one armrest to make the space seem more open.

Filled with treasured pieces, the house is a manifestation of a young family’s nest.

Shelves are filled with framed photos and other precious memorabilia.

Travel Books

The family has a collection of travel books that does not only provide information but also adds color to the white walls and shelves.

The floor-to-ceiling shelves make for an interesting backdrop.

The couple also had the six-seater wooden dining table custom-made. The lantern hanging from the ceiling adds a “relaxed, slightly country” feel to the space.

The kitchen counter is covered in ceramic, marble-printed tiles and a granite countertop which serves as a prep area and a breakfast nook. Wall-mounted cabinets with minimalist knobs create a traditional, classy aura.

The door is also used as a blackboard for jotting down reminders and grocery lists.

Although sparsely furnished, the bedroom still bursts with personality. The camel-and-white striped walls make the bedroom look wide and classy, with curtains stretched along the ceiling to make it look long. Natural light from the window gives the room a warm and welcoming vibe, while the chandelier from A&S Lamps adds sophistication to the modern room.

Striped rugs are also present as it adds vibrancy to the chic modern house.

This sleek feminine piece furnishes a corner of the bedroom, with small details such as the small black electric fan to counter and balance the vibe.

The house’s walk-in closet remains faithful to the modern theme of dark and light combined to complement.

Storage baskets and warm lighting reinforces the feeling of cozy organization, with gray floor tiles to avoid the clinical look.

The guest bathroom is well-stocked with storage baskets and shelves that keep clutter at bay. Although the couple worked around the existing fittings and layout, the photo frames and knick-knacks personalize the spaces.

Still true to the traditional and classy modern theme, the home office is a combination of sleek black and abstract colors for Dexter’s office needs.

Home Office

In this space, Kat sews and stocks bags from her own label. It is completed with a teal sewing machine that adds life and color to the room.

Home Office

Like the rest of the house, Kat's home office is kept neat and organized.
