A Pilot's Cozy Hotel-Like Studio Unit in Pasay

Interior designer Sharlene Lanzarrote transformed his 31-sqm condo into a hotel-like home.

Working as a pilot, the owner of this 31-sqm condo unit isn't often at home. Usually, he would only have little time to relax in his own space before flying off to another destination. This inspired interior designer Sharlene Lanzarrote to transform his newly-owned studio unit in Pasay, Manila into a hotel-like bachelor's pad. "We opted for a design that captures the spirit of a luxury hotel and the comfort of his own home," Sharlene tells Real Living. "The style was inspired by mid-century elements with a contemporary twist."

She adds: "wood and leather might be a mancave staple, but we had fun experimenting [with other elements]. We added soft textures like microsuede and a pop of color for the headboard, [which serves as] the main accent of the space."

According to the interior designer, the proposed design originally had elaborate ceiling and wall works. However, her team had to make adjustments since the construction was put on hold due to the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ). "This project was supposedly done pre-ECQ [right] before the client moves in.

"When construction work was finally allowed, we had to make a lot of adjustments because we have to consider that our client is staying in the unit." As much as possible, they wanted to avoid a messy construction site. "So, we came up with the decision to completely scratch our ceiling plan and just make use of the existing electrical plan. Also, instead of repainting the walls, we decided to install wallpapers for the whole unit." It took them almost two months to finish installing the built-ins.

"Luckily, during the interior styling phase, our client had to undergo a flight training so he left his unit for three whole days. We got the chance to style it full blast and surprise him. We are extremely happy that he was satisfied with the result!"
