A Modern Tropical Family Home in Quezon City

After a decade or so, it’s a given to see signs of wear and tear in a home. Peeling paint, leaks, and furniture pieces that have seen better days are just some of the things you need to take note of if you want to give your space a makeover. The owners of this home in Quezon City have been living in the property since 2006. Karen and Ariel host family gatherings often so it's a must to have welcoming common areas where guests can relax and feel at home. While the living and dining areas are spacious enough to accommodate visitors, Karen admits that it lacks character. “Before the renovation, wala lahat, it’s just white. They wanted na magkaroon ng focal point and that there’s no TV in the dining area. We retained the furniture pieces and just worked on minor changes,” shares interior designer Jasmine Ancheta, who's also Karen's cousin.

Though considered as minor, the improvements done in the common areas not only added character to the home, it also gave the two-storey property a modern tropical touch. “We started with the dining area then later on, we decided to work on the living area as well. It’s put-together and I like the effect of the murals sa stairs. Nung nilagay ‘yung mural, nagmukhang complete. Nabuhay ‘yung design,” adds Jasmine.
