This High-Ceiling Glass House in Ayala Alabang Is Breathtaking

This modern tropical house in Ayala Alabang looks so much bigger than it actually is. The 408sqm property was designed to give the illusion of space. “Working with a fairly small lot, the idea was to make everything else big by utilizing the lot's depth and increasing the height of key elements in the house,” explains Miguel Syjuco, head designer of design and build firm Draco Builders

Upon entry, guests will certainly marvel at the ultra-high ceiling. Glass walls further visually expand the space, and most of the doors in this home are taller than usual.

From this angle, you can see the massive front door, which is made from narra wood.

“The proper placement of the big tiles were also important features that made [the] small space look [bigger] than it actually is,” adds Miguel.

Despite having so much space, the head designer of Draco Builders made sure that the home still feels warm and homey. To achieve this, he says, “we used different types of local wood on different surfaces—from the stairs, doors, to the ceilings—and placed indoor plants on key corners of each space.”

The first floor of the house follows an open layout—this helps maintain the spacious feel of the property.

One of the main highlights of the living area is its stunning wooden accent wall that's also made from narra. “It serves as the view for people who are sitting down in the living area,” shares Miguel.

“As you [take a seat] at the dining table and look up, you will see a ceiling design [that's made from kamagong.] It connects to the kitchen and makes it feel as if they are in the same space.”

Master Bedroom

The master bedroom will surely wow any visitor. Its ceiling is four-meters high—it’s almost as high as the ceiling of the ground floor. And just like the living area, it also has tall glass windows, allowing lots of natural light to come in.
