One wouldn't expect an airy space when looking at this property from the outside. “Parang magic nga daw sabi nung mga nakakapasok dito. From outside daw, parang ang liit, tapos pagpasok mo, ang laki pala,” shares interior designer Van Acuña Solaña, who came into the picture to help the family build the home of their dreams—which took more than a decade to become a reality.

Before they got married, the owners found a house in another area, but decided to find another property because of a bad neighbor. Three months before the couple tied the knot, they found this house and liked it. However, since they didn’t have the luxury of time, they could only afford to squeeze in minor renovations. Even so, they knew that a proper renovation should materialize in the future—and it did, 12 years later.

The house is awash in blue, yellow, beige, and white, tied wonderfully by carefully selected, French-inspired furniture and accessories. The home opens to a foyer with hints of greens from framed botanical prints and fresh eucalyptus from Pietro Collection. The living area is a study in simplicity with well-appointed accent chairs, tables, and huge windows that let the light in.

The couple also managed to have two kitchens—with the working one outside to avoid the smell of food from wafting inside the house. The bedrooms are also as personal as they can get—Van made sure to use the occupants’ preferred color palette and adorned them with the appropriate accessories. The interior designer also had to consider the kids’ needs—since they are homeschooled, a portion of the attic was converted into a schoolroom, which happens to be the most colorful room in the house.
