A Tucked Away Modern Farmhouse in Sariaya, Quezon
Surrounded by fruit-bearing trees, this family home features a unique layout and a calming view of the forest
A property’s location contributes to the overall aesthetic of a home. Take for example this charming modern farmhouse in Sariaya, Quezon. While it can look good anywhere, it looks extra stunning surrounded by various fruit-bearing trees and standing on a 1.7-hectare lot.
“It’s the perfect area for a farmhouse concept,” says interior designer Nikki Audine, who worked on the interiors of the house. In addition to lending her interior design expertise to the project, Nikki also suggested the home’s layout, closely collaborating with everyone involved.

In photo: The house was finished in eight months. To complement the outdoor area, Nikki incorporated a wraparound porch as part of the exterior. “The back of the house faces the forest and I want to celebrate the beauty of nature,” she shares.
“The architectural layout of this house is U-shaped which I personally suggested to the professionals in charge of the architecture and construction. The swimming pool sits in the middle of the house and it can be seen from the dining area, the kitchen, and the boys’ room. There are also sliding doors around those rooms so that it opens to the outdoors, thereby creating an indoor-outdoor feel,” Nikki explains.
Aside from working on the areas inside the house, Nikki also took part in bringing the chapel within the property to life to make sure it complements the look and feel of the home. Since this is the second project she has worked on with the owners, the process went smoothly, resulting in a forever home the owners can be proud of.

Façade
A closer look at the façade will give you an idea on the materials used in building the house. From the décor to the tiles, each piece added was given careful thought. It looks like many of the farmhouses often seen on Pinterest and international design magazines.
Foyer
Double doors open to the home’s foyer, Nikki’s favorite area. To immediately create visual impact, the doors are finished in soft matte black paint.
Since first impressions last, it’s a must to have a foyer that captures the attention of guests. “I showcased a big wooden wall décor and an intricate console table from Triboa Bay Living. Aside from indoor plants, I also spruced up the entryway with select décor pieces from Pietro which the owners and I handpicked,” explains Nikki.

Living Area
All of the areas feature big windows and glass doors that give a view of the outdoors. Soft neutral colors, hints of black, wood, and a textured carpet complete the living area. The interior designer chose an L-shaped sofa from EDIA to accommodate the whole family as the space also functions as an entertainment area.
Nikki got the center table from IKEA while the area rug is from DecoLiving.
Dining Area
A few steps from the living area is the dining area furnished with an eight-seater dining table. Paired with the stately table is a bench and fully upholstered tufted dining chairs. “I placed a natural sisal carpet to anchor the area and to provide texture,” says Nikki.
While Nikki got the dining table and bench from Ashley Home, her own studio, VA Interior Design Studio custom-made the dining chairs. She chose a special, anti-stain fabric since the owners often entertain guests.
Matching droplights complete the look of the dining area. There’s no need to turn the lights on during daytime since plenty of natural light stream into the space.
Kitchen
The kitchen was manufactured by VA Interior Design Studio. Nikki opted to showcase Shaker-Style kitchen cabinets in soft matte black finish. According to thespruce.com, Shaker-Style cabinets are popular framed cabinets.
Bathed in natural light, the kitchen is spacious and flows directly to the dining area. “I designed an oversized waterfall kitchen island made of Volakas white quartz countertop while a patterned tile flooring visually separates it from the dining area,” Nikki says. She also paired the kitchen island with comfy fully upholstered seating pieces so it can also function as a breakfast nook.

Boys’ Room
Two kids occupy the boys’ room with each occupant getting his own bed and closet. According to Nikki, the boys’ and girls’ rooms mirror each other as the owners want a fair layout and design for the kids.
The floor-to-ceiling cabinets showcase the room’s high ceiling. The furniture and closet were manufactured by VA Interior Design Studio.
Girls’ Room
Similar to the boys’ room, the girls’ room also has two beds but to soften up the look, Nikki opted for upholstered headboards and a lighter color palette. There’s also a mini vanity area in the corner.
Instead of two separate cabinets, there’s a storage center at the foot of the bed, with a TV in the middle.
Master Bedroom
The master bedroom features Nikki’s trademark airy, light, and clean aesthetic. The four-poster bed is a statement piece on its own. Beside the bed is a small pantry with a bar sink and a mini fridge kept under it since the owners enjoy late-night snacking.
Most of the pieces in the master bedroom were custom-made by VA Interior Design Studio. The solihiya console TV console was brought from a Cebu manufacturer that specializes in solihiya. The door beside the TV leads to a 30sqm walk-in closet.
“VA Interior Design Studio also manufactured the walk-in closet. I wanted to create a straightforward and spacious closet,” says Nikki. She designed the closet as a practical storage space that makes it easier for the owners to find and organize their essentials.

Pool Area
Serene best describes the pool area as it provides a soothing view of the outdoors. You can also see the extension of the wraparound porch, allowing the owners to bring out seating pieces when they want to relax.
Chapel
The chapel follows the aesthetic of the main house. “It’s designed for intimate gatherings of around 10 to 15 worshippers,” shares Nikki. “It’s very simple and well-equipped, a place within their property where they can breathe, find peace, and feel closer to God,” she adds.
