Inspiration can be found anywhere. In the case of this family home, the brilliant idea came from a bar in Ortigas, of all places. The lady of the house wanted to replicate the bar’s loft feature that she even told her husband, “Gusto ko ‘yong nando’n tayo sa taas, tapos ‘pag may bisita tayo, tatawag lang tayo pababa, ‘Tuloy kayo!’”

And this dream did become a reality. Since the couple runs a build-and-sell company, creating that space where they can have a “viewing deck” from the second floor was as easy as proudly welcoming guests in their house. The couple divided their tasks in this project—the wife took care of the interior design while the husband was in charge of the construction side. Each nook was filled to the brim with furniture pieces, accessories, and interesting details, leaving one to conclude that there is no room for minimalism in this family home, which, at first glance, looks like a hotel lobby.

Despite going all out in design elements, the entire house does not look cluttered at all. Perhaps it helped that the homeowners had a specific idea in mind while they scoured for pieces, and that they went to different stores to get the look they wanted. This goes to show that a unified concept is achievable—and sometimes all you need is one random feature to jumpstart the design process.
