RL Makeovers: Storage and Style for a 24sqm Studio

A bare condo is turned into a personalized space with a lot of storage options

Since a 24sqm unit is so limited, every corner should be used to reflect the owner’s personality. The space should also be furnished with storage solutions for personal belongings. In this studio owned by Claudine, who dabbles in music, film, and photography, the plain white walls have been made interesting with pops of lime green and a handful of artworks.

Kristine Neri-Magturo along with her makeover team made up of Kimi Manuel, Karen Corpuz, and Lizamar dela Cruz, also built shelves to keep the owner’s CDs, cameras, and other collections.

While some of Claudine’s existing furniture were discarded, a few pieces were kept and repainted to match the new look of the space. The brown cabinet has been painted white. The dining table still has its original pine stain, the top halves of the four dining stools were painted white as well.
The team also came up with a "disheveled but still polished and organized space" that reflects Claudine's character. Her collections are now well organized and put on display. Artworks, which were given by her friends and were once stowed away, add more appeal to the space.
To make a small area look more spacious, Kristine's team kept the white walls. Lime green shelves and vases were added for visual interest. The most interesting accent is the wall behind Claudine's bed which has lime green, gray, red, and white vertical stripes. "Painted accent walls are an easy, economical, and fast way to spruce up a space," explains Kimi. "Stick to colors that harmonize well and simple patterns that are easy to execute for a sure, effective impact."
Aside from using colors as accents in the small home, Kristine used a burlap curtain to add more depth to the space. The team also added a string curtain to separate the dining and bedroom areas. It creates divisions in the small space while keeping an open and airy atmosphere.
The makeover team first got rid of some of Claudine's existing furniture that were no longer needed to free up the space. Claudine’s former work area is now occupied by a very storage-efficient wall of shelves flanked by mirrored panels on each side.
