Myrza Sison shares how it was like living with husband Andrej Wisniewski in her former studio unit: “We were packed in that studio for years. And we were living like college students…we ate take out on the coffee table!”

Andrej describes the challenge of fitting everything into the unit. “It started out as a cute, little place,” he recalls. “And then it started to acquire ‘stuff.’ So we tried to get rid of it, which caused a little friction [laughs].”

Myrza, who is an editorial director at Summit Media and the former editor of Cosmopolitan Philippines and Marie Claire, moved into the studio when she was still single. It was enough space for one person, but it got quite cramped for two.

The only solution was to move out. Andrej, a restaurateur, soon found a nearby condominium along a tree-lined street—a Brutalist-style building that is 37 years old. “I really like these old, boutique-style buildings,” Andrej says. “The reason why we got this place was because there are only a few units in it. You get so much more space compared to a brand new building.”

This 139sqm, two-bedroom condo unit had oodles of space, but a couple of trade-offs: it had a low ceiling, and the closed-off spaces were dark and cramped. The couple decided to take the plunge and renovate, tearing down walls and relocating the kitchen to another part of the unit. The end result is an open, free-flowing layout, with more natural light and a view of the trees, and interiors with a playful midcentury Scandinavian vibe.

“It took me two months to get used to it,” Andrej says. “I’d wake up in the morning and say: ‘Oh my God! We have a living room!’”
