How the Right Mix of Colors and Textures Transformed This 72sqm Condo Unit Into a Calming, Cohesive Home

Don't be afraid to use patterns!

There has been an ongoing trends of #TeamPuti homes—mostly white spaces combined with neutral-colored fixtures and furniture—and while these are beautiful in their own right, there's also a lot to say about those that go for color and texture for added depth and character.

This 72sqm, two-bedroom condo unit by interior designer Cara Fajardo shows how different facets can come together when properly planned. “[It] is a perfect example of how beautiful a space can be when the right colors are put into play, truly embracing the power that lies in color psychology,” she tells Real Living.

Living area, dining area, kitchen

A quick scan of the common area shows a lot of texture: from the lines of the wooden flooring broken by an interesting carpet, to the beige accent wall bordered by blue, there is cohesion despite all the variations.

“The color psychology of blue emits calmness, relaxation and a sense of security, while the color yellow captures warmth, embraces positivity, and promotes good energy—together creating a combination best fitting for a space that welcomes people and encourages social interaction,” says Cara.

The common area is zoned by colors: The kitchen and the dining space show more browns and yellow, while the sala goes for more blue borders and pieces.

Home office

Moving into the home office, the interior designer goes for more blue-grays, and mixes harsh edges and soft curves for a space that enables one to focus without it being too antiseptic.

Right beside it is a common bathroom in periwinkle, yellow, and pops of purple.

Laundry area

Unlike the home office, the laundry area is more neutral. Gray fixtures are contrasted by wicker baskets, all lined up against plain white walls.

Master bedroom and bathroom

The master bedroom somehow manages to totally segregate itself from the rest of the unit while still remaining in theme. While the gray-tone patterned wallpaper connects it to the rest of the home, the use of sea foam and sage on its walls highlights it as a space only for the owners.

The master bathroom goes back to beiges, golds, and yellows seen in the common area even as it continues the green touches of the bedroom.

“Here we played more with curves, patterns, and textures to liven up the space; choosing elements that embody subtle elegance and sophistication,” says Cara. “The harmonious balance and healing qualities of the color green and the calming neutrality of the color beige makes for a truly relaxing interior space."
