An IKEA-inspired 57sqm Condo in Mandaluyong
Taking inspiration from the brand's chic minimalist aesthetic, interior designer Claudine Medina created a home filled with sleek furniture, neutral touches, and pastel accents

After seeing how interior designer Claudine Medina transformed an empty unit into a welcoming Scandinavian-inspired haven on realliving.com.ph, the owners of this two-bedroom condo in Mandaluyong got in touch with her to see if they can collaborate on a similar project. “They wanted a similar look for their own condo—they want gray walls, multifunctional and light-colored furniture, and Scandinavian accessories,” she shares. Since the clients are based in the United States, they had to finalize a couple of important details to make sure the project will run smoothly. According to Claudine, the condo will serve as their home whenever they’re in Manila. “They like IKEA furniture and they own several pieces, plus, they love using pastel colors for the accessories,” the designer adds. To recreate the feel of their US home, Claudine took these into consideration as she worked on a basic chic look defined by simple furniture, dainty accessories, and a color palette that’s easy on the eyes.
Given that they won’t be using the unit most of the time, the owners also wanted to create a space that can be rented out while keeping within the set budget. To accomplish this, Claudine had to stick with the existing finishes upon turnover like the flooring, the ceiling, and the location of lighting, to name a few. After the renovation period, the gray walls serve as canvas, with sweet pops of color and well-thought-out furniture completing the IKEA-inspired look.
