A Young Doctor’s 72sqm Modern Condo Unit
A gift from his parents, the Mondrian-inspired space is cozy, inviting, and ideal for spending quality time with the family

“We bought this unit para sa anak namin. He’s a medical doctor. We wanted him to have a place para makapag-start siya ng kanyang career, at the same time, if he decides to get married, he already has a place for his family,” shares Daddy Greg. Together with Mommy Elvira and their son Doctor Jao, he started looking for pegs and possible designers online. Design consultant Grace Moslares of Magara Designs was one of the professionals they got in touch with and they were impressed with her answers from the get-go. The family met with Grace, discussed possible themes, and left everything in the hands of the veteran designer. “Nag-submit siya ng design plan and nagustuhan namin so the plan pushed through right away. Walang challenges, it went smoothly. It turned out na maganda talaga,” Daddy Greg adds. It also helped that the young homeowner has a vision of what he wants to have in his unit, too. “You have to know what you like or what your goals are for the space. Parang may picture ka na kung anong gusto mong maramdaman when you get home and your lifestyle,” Jao says.
For her part, Grace took inspiration from the closeness of the family. She wanted to give them a place where they can bond and spend time together. “My inspiration is the lifestyle of the family and how they treat and love each other. This is my take on the modern design. With the look and feel, I really don’t want it to be cold or minimalist. I wanted it to have clean lines and splashes of color and texture,” she explains. The living and dining areas share an open layout, making it ideal for lounging around, enjoying good food, and having friends over.
