A Luxurious Classical Style for a 185sqm Condo Unit

Sophisticated pieces and a dark palette come together in this stylish and lighthearted home

The creation of this home shows that when you close a chapter of your life, a new one is set to begin. Coming from a huge change in her life, the owner of this unit decided to move into a new home with her children.

Along with her interior designer friend, Dobie Aranda, the owner chose a 185sqm two-bedroom unit in Makati. Built on a mix of styles, her new home served as a homage to a neutral black and white palette inside a luxurious space, decorated with refinished Louis XVI chairs, lush damask fabric, crystal and mirrored pieces, and dark chandeliers. Oriental art served as accents, with chests of drawers, a Guan Yin statue, and a couple of modern sculptural pieces found all over the home.

The result is a contemporary homage to the classics – an exceptionally stylish home bursting with beautifully crafted furniture and distinct art pieces. Aside from being satisfied with the aesthetically pleasing output, the owner is more than happy to find and build a new home with her kids that gives her a sense of freedom.

Entrance Hallway

A huge mirror by the entrance hallway reflects both the living and dining areas.

An intricately carved mirror - with ears, a sign that it's a rare item - is also seen by the hallway together with an Asian chest. A sculptural glass piece coupled with flowers break the imposing look, making it softer and more welcoming.

Living Area

The symmetrical living area highlights a French sofa paired with a series of dark paintings.

Given the vast space, the owner was able to play around when it comes to matching her pieces. The low, mirrored Zen table was mixed with antique Antoinette chair and occasional chairs.

Dining Area

The dining area can be viewed from the living area and vice versa. This gives the feeling of too much depth. A harmonious mix of black and white flow into both rooms.

Dining Area Detail

The dining set was left by the unit’s former owner, reupholstered to match the damask fabric in the living area.

The kitchen was designed with storage space in mind. Cupboards and shelves were built and installed to store all the silverware and serving dishes that the owner collects. The space highlights a clean, functional, and polished look.

Master Bedroom

Inspired by a swanky hotel room suite, the bedroom contains a large bed, a velvet chaise lounge, and a set of masculine chairs. The small work area at the corner of her room is accentuated by a comfortable English wing chair.

Mirrored Dresser

A custom-made dresser—with ample storage space—fits between two walls. A gilded frame mirror and a statuette softens the functional-industrial feel of the dresser.

Walk-in Closet

The owner's walk-in closet is every girl’s dream, reminiscent of Upper Manhattan’s designer label dressing areas, with its mirrored dresser and sliding doors, all in white.

Master Bathroom

Built in classic black and white, the bathroom houses a state-of-the-art shower enclosure built for two, and a lavish black armchair with a petite chandelier hanging above it. The deluxe bath hosts a clear mix of classic furnishings and modern-day convenience.

Boy's Bedroom

A large-sized Badon oil painting hangs over the queen size bed. This bedroom is easily convertible to an adult’s, with its big bed and neutral colored walls.

Boy's Bedroom Detail

All pieces found in the room are child-friendly. The owner decided to add carpet as the boy can be very naughty.

Girl's Bedroom

Curtains of yellow, orange, and pink fabrics give off a sunny and girly feel. Classic elements like miniature King Louis chairs, alabaster lamps, and a small-scale chandelier adorn the room.
