A Bachelor Pad with Reused Pieces and Bargain Finds

Masculine elements and quirky objects elevate a man's first apartment.

Decorating a bachelor pad can be a challenge for any young man. But the apartment of Real Living contributing photographer Miguel Nacianceno can put any newbie's design nightmares to rest.

Miguel found a well-proportioned apartment that let in enough sunlight and had the right mood lighting for a cozy, comfortable vibe. Recycled furniture and home decor paired with his personal collections liven up the home.

Before the Redecoration

When Miguel moved in, his belongings were in boxes on the floor. This space has now been transformed into a neat and organized corner.

Living Area

No bachelor pad is complete without the couch and TV combo. The space is livened up with a papier mache horse and a Pinocchio mask that came all the way from Paete, Laguna.

Living Area

Choose a space with the right balance of mood lighting and sunlight. A brand new lamp was acquired to complement the living room's recessed pin lights.

Pop element

A pop art-inspired Coca-Cola container can double as storage and a place to set the remote controls.

DIY lamp

Old cassette tapes have been used to create a quirky table lamp.

Toy Collection

Miguel livened up the space with colorful toys from his collection.

Foldable screens are used to separate the areas of the home. Personal artwork such as photographs taken by the homeowner himself add warmth and character to the space.

Create unique focal points by arranging artworks, photographs and books on or beside a display table. Don't be afraid to lay a few objects on the bare floor.

A collection of books and old cameras may be used to decorate a shelf. To create a sense of order, stack objects according to their similarities.

Since the homeowner is a photographer, it was only natural that he had a camera collection.

Dining Area (before)

In making over the space, be aware of a room's proportions. One needs to know the amount of space needed for the final decoration scheme.

Dining Area (after)

A set of plates and flatware from photographer and Real Living contributing lensman Toto Labrador's garage sale was acquired for only P250.

Black lamps with yellow light are suspended above the dining table for a modern industrial feel.

The bedroom is simple but comfortable. The same colors seen on the wallpaper are also used for the bed sheets and pillows.

Master Bedroom

In Miguel's bedroom, storage solutions allow him to find his important things easily.

For his work desk, Miguel chose a piece that he could paint or varnish over. Retro pieces in bright colors such as the 60s-inspired plastic chair and deep blue bookcase add to the charm of the space.
