Modern Chinese Style for a 24sqm Unit in Makati

The Philippine School of Interior Design graduating students transform an empty space into an Oriental-inspired haven

What can you do with a 24sqm homeThe Philippine School of Interior Design (PSID) graduating students explore the possibilities through Studio 24, an interior design exhibit with 24 different units that measure 24 square meters each.

One of the 24 spaces is this studio unit meant for a couple that makes Chinese porcelain pieces. Here are the five things that we love best about this particular place:

The Wooden Materials and Furniture

Graduating students Ren Malaki, Richard Abiño, Norman Datu, and Yasmine Atiyeh picked out wooden building materials and furniture pieces for this 24sqm space. These wooden elements helped turn the bare unit into a warm and cozy place.

The Built-in Bench and Kitchen Island

Since they had a limited area to work with, the students replaced traditional furniture with wall-mounted pieces! A built-in bench and kitchen island can help the homeowners save on precious floor space.

Interesting Accent Wall

The homeowners are welcomed into this studio unit with an accent wall inspired by traditional Chinese patterns! This accent wall makes this area more interesting and separates the bathroom from the rest of the 24sqm space.

The China Porcelain-Inspired Details

Instead of a bedroom wall, the students defined the sleeping area with a unique ceiling and floor treatment! The blue-and-white colors and charming floral patterns are inspired by old-fashioned Chinese porcelain.

The Unique Handles on the Drawers

Since the space is so small, the students also had to find more storage options for the homeowners. In line with this thought, the bed frame comes with nifty drawers! We think that the gold Oriental handle is a nice touch.

Studio 24 will run from October 3 to 31, 2015 at the Ronac Lifestyle Center, Paseo de Magallanes, Makati City. Admission is free.
