Alexis has been an urban beekeeper for over two years. His love for bees started with the birth of his daughter, Nea Deborah, whose second name means "bee" in Hebrew. He became even more interested in bees when he attended a seminar at the Beehive Farm and Kitchen in Batangas. “Masyado akong na-amaze about the bees,” he tells Summit Media. “Hindi ako maka tulog talaga. And I told my wife, ‘Hon, kailangan mag-alaga rin tayo ng bubuyog. Gusto kong subukan.” His wife said, “Saan ka mag-aalaga? Urban tayo.” However, according to Alexis’ teacher, beekeeping in the city is actually possible! “Kailangan lang daw ma-survey yung location.”
In January 2019, he brought home two colonies and he was able to harvest 58 kilos of pure honey from May to June 2019.
Currently, urban beekeeping is a part-time business of Alexis and his wife, Shiela!
