Expert-Approved Lighting Tips For A Beautiful Home
Interior designer Paula de Guzman gives tips on how to enhance condo spaces with lighting
They say good lighting is the foundation of design and we can't help but agree! A well-lit space, while lacking in elaborate styling, can look put-together and stunning because it glows.
Don't waste your effort on decorating your home with poor lighting fixtures. Dress up your home in twinkling lights with these tips:Â
1. Plan your lighting well.
"It is often neglected once all the renovation hype is in full swing. Lighting design isn't all about picking the most beautiful picture, but it's more about what it does to a given space."Â
2. Choose the proper type of lighting.Â
"Use warm white as ambient lighting and cool white as task lighting in work areas." Work areas include the kitchen and utility/laundry areas.Â
3. Create variety in lighting sources.Â
"Vary lighting heights and types. You can have a light source on top of a shelf together with something low like a small lamp on a side table." Ask your contractor to add a small lighting cove for T5 lights underneath your wall shelves.Â
4. Highlight the things you love.
"Assign specific lighting to certain spots and favorite objects. And remember to put different levels of brightness to different parts of the room to prevent lighting fatigue and lack of depth."Â
