Must-See: A Home and A Restaurant in One

Proper space planning and creative solutions help transform this small home

Would you buy a home without bedrooms or a proper living area? For most homeowners, the sensible answer would be to pass up because renovation would take time, a lot of work, and loads of cash. However, for a pair of long-time roommates in New York City, this was an opportunity to quit the rental scene and build their own space.

Adam Finkelman and Evan Garfield saw potential in what used to be their old Brooklyn loft. Their goal was simple: to seperate the living space form their restaurant area. Finkelman, a furniture designer and professional builder, laid out a plan that included sleeping areas, space for at-home music performances and a working kitchen for Garfield who cooked for the club. 

The two friends built everything on their own using materials they found on the street and Craigslist. To fit everything inside their loft, they made use of a lot of open and wall-mounted storage. For the garage, they added soundproofing so it can be a proper performance area.
