Reader Question: What Can I Do With My 22sqm Studio Unit?
Real Living consulting style editor and design consultant Issa Villar gives decorating tips for a small space
Q: I bought an 80cm x 150cm brown area rug, which I thought was a steal at P975. I’m planning to use it in a 22sqm studio unit that I will be sharing with my partner.
Now, I don’t know what colors, patterns, and materials our couch, chairs, and center table should be. We are both guys so we don’t want our place to look too feminine or dark. Our walls and ceiling are painted white, and we lean towards shades of aqua with touches of tangerine. – Alfa Capili
A: It sounds like you're headed in the right direction! Brown is a neutral color so it will go well with anything. Plus, you've already picked a great color combination--aqua and tangerine are complementary colors.
For a timeless feel, stick to simple wooden furniture, then play it up by adding accessories in shades of your existing color palette.
