Jumpstart Your Day: This Eco Cabin Gives Us Vacation Home Goals

Light, air, and wood come together to create a relaxing space that’s nestled in nature

We’ve seen different vacation homes and private getaways—all with distinct features that make each the perfect sanctuary when you want to get away from the troubles of the city. Some are found by the beach, where you can feel the sand beneath your feet and marvel at the waves; and there are a few that’s located atop mountains—giving owners a fantastic view of captivating sceneries.

What if you can combine all of these under one roof in a cabin like no other? This eco cabin retreat on wheels is everything we can hope for in a “getaway.” Commissioned by a teacher from Glasgow, this small space was designed and built by Echo Living—a firm known for developing sustainable, small buildings. After the completion of the project, it was shipped to a location on the island of Crete where it’s surrounded by olive trees.

Here are some of the things that we loved about this unique small home:

It features a minimalist aesthetic and clever use of space. The living area has a built-in seating area with a skylight above and plenty of storage underneath while the raised double bed features a little wardrobe, built-in bedside table with reading light and a view of the sea.

The home is powered by solar panels and when nights become cooler, a small wood burning stove provides heat.

Its interiors highlight spruce timber panels in natural finish, while timber and tiles were chosen for the floors.

We especially love the compact kitchen! It has an open shelving and a wall to the side that opens to the adjacent deck to extend the space.

The house on wheels is comprised of two buildings – with the main living space linked to the shower and toilet area by a timber walkway.
